This is a new issue to me, started when I test rode a Specialized Romin that must have been too wide, cue a fair bit of discomfort right at the inside top of my thigh.
Switched to a narrower Romin which seems better, but now my trusty Charge Spoon is doing it instead!
I wondered if the original 'chafe' just hadn't healed, but there's no redness or broken skin.
Can this happen with time, or if your posture on the bike changes? I'm spinning pedals more than mashing now, and my knees seem happiest slightly closer to the top tube.
I've tweaked stance width by a couple of mm using a pedal washer and by tweaking the cleat, will test ride today.
Worried I need to invest in all new narrower saddles!
Ta
Lay off the pize
FWIW with some saddles I've rubbed paint off the saddle rails with my thighs. No chafing though.
Ha, pize are not the problem, my weight is resolutely static! Would love to think thize are getting bigger but I'm squat-phobic so I doubt it's that either...
I've rubbed rails before too, I guess they aren't rough enough to cause any discomfort.
Have seen a few suggestions regarding saddle height, will drop it a smidge.
Tempted by the super narrow 'friction free' Selle Italia saddles but am under a self-imposed spending freeze while my credit card recovers...
Been having saddle issues myself, through winter I thought it was simply because of staying seated on turbo rides, making 60min sessions often being the limit of my tolerance. But it's continued outdoors.
Been messing about with saddle height, saddle tilt and swapping between five different saddles. Longest ride I've had before discomfort starts is ~3 hours.
But the discomfort started early on Sunday and I'm pretty sure I've found another contributing factor for me... I've been increasing tyre pressure in my 28mm GP4 Seasons and GP4000S IIs as I've put on weight over the winter, rode the full length Corhampton to Winchester road for the first time there and back at ~95/100PSI (although the front tyre had a latex tube that losses ~30PSI over a few hours) and that road is ~90% carp tarmac. Almost wished I'd been on an FS!
Going to try ~80PSI front and back on today's ride.
just following.
ive got a re occurring one thats being a right old pain in the bum
is it more of a clothing problem perhaps? Shorts getting bunched up for example?
If I've been off the bike for a while I sometimes get discomfort but I think it's while my regrown leg fur gets worn away in the friction areas. Sorry for that image.

Well I did wonder, hard to tell if it has coincided with me wearing some Castelli bib shorts that are on the snug side, but I would have thought that would reduce chafing as the fabric stayed put!
I did read a comment elsewhere about thicker padding effectively decreasing the distance betwixt thigh and saddle, causing more rub. Am loathe to abandon 2 pairs of expensive shorts though!

Well I have started back on the turbo funnily enough, what I haven't figured out is if the narrower Romin on the turbo bike is contributing to the discomfort, or if I'm just carrying the discomfort over from the commuter with the Charge Spoon saddle.
I think the cheapest solution is to take a week off the bikes to let the skin recover, then try and be more scientific about what's causing it. Just not sure when that week should be, sensible option would be after our week in Girona riding in the Spanish heat!
Will keep using the chamois cream for now, just don't want to get reliant upon it.
mmmm... narrow...

Oh well, just to finish off this enthralling voyage of discovery, I think it's curtains for my faithful old Spoon! Just finished an hour on the turbo on a 143mm Romin with noticeably less discomfort than after a 45 minute commute on the Charge Spoon.
Measuring across a notional spot 5cm back from the tip shows the Spoon is about 4mm wider.
Now to go pester some shops asking them about the nose widths of different saddles... ๐
Read title.
Only opened to type one of my favourite two word combinations.....
Thunder thighs 😀
Ha, my old pilates instructor always seemed impressed by my quads (or so I liked to think) but I doubt she saw many cyclists. Had a recent coaching session with a professional cycling coach who was a bit more frank ('You're obviously not a sprinter' or words to that effect...)
used to be aliante only man until post heart op and then got exactly this !!!!!
top inside edge of the thigh or the areas between buttock and thigh. swapped over to prologo
scratch (134 wide) and no more tears !
have been an avid chamois cream user since it started - "happy bottom butter" seems to
work best for me.
rode the aliante for years before this with no problems at all ... absolutely no idea why
i should suddenly start having issues.
So what happened post heart op do you think? Spinning more or weight loss or did you get more flexible and change your position?
I think my change in position was mostly giving up fighting my knee's natural drift towards the top tube, I used to have all sorts of shims and washers etc. just trying to push my knees further from the top tube in the mistaken belief that this would relieve some knee pain I had.
I think I'm gradually getting lower over the top tube as well (although still laughably upright compared to some) which I seem to remember reading brings your sitbones closer together.
A snubby saddle like a spesh power might be worth looking at. Mines made my enormous powerful thighs far more comfortable.
