[#818965]

the wife's roadie needs a new one, as the FSA Ultimax has gone rough and the bearings are weird and unobtainable, it seems.

I've got a UN73 I can put in but it's heavy, so I wa sthinking something ti maybe.

So far the list is

- TA Axix - light and not silly money. Steel and ti axles
- Raceface Taperlock - can't find any so far
- Royce - lovely and rebuildable but expensive
- Phil Wood - very lovely and rebuildable but very expensive

Any others? Any comments on what you run?

[taper needs to be JIS and 107mm axle]

Heres my experiences of square taper BB's
Shimano- heavy cheap and industructable= the best
Royce- Gorgeous rebuilable wil cost you twice as much as each time you remove it you will break the special royce tool.
Phil Wood- Shiny shiny beautiful V expensive.

Just stick a Shimano in and then in ten years time replace it with another Shimano.

Can't recommend Royce highly enough, fantastic pieces of kit and customer service like no other

they are a pain to fit but if you are breaking the tool then you are doing it wrong. I use the crank bolts to hold the tool in place and it seams to work perfectly.

Ten years for a Shimano - you're not riding enough!

1 year or there abouts..

I'm a fan of the Shimano too but it's a roadie and I'm on a weenie mission 8)

Would Aspire US be the cheapest place for Phil Wood do you think, or a UK based supplier?
