Here's my dilemma. I commute into work on a road bike, I'm not the fittest I've ever been and probably fall into the slightly podgy MAMIL category so prefer to wear some shorts and a gilet over my lycra so as not to scare the receptionist when I arrive at work.

I have a very nice Gore AS gilet which works well in most weathers and some equally nice Gore Alp-X waterproof shorts. I wear them both all year unless it's particularly warm in which case I'll be in full MAMIL glory.

Trouble is I'm starting to wear through the waterproof coating on the inside of the shorts, plus the extra faff when washing them (carefully and followed by a reproof) means they get a bit smelly. Now that spring has sprung I'm thinking about donning some more suitable shorts but what?

I have some MTB baggies but they're a bit too baggy for a long commute on the road bike, and I really like the fit of the Gore (yes, I'm a fanboi) so am thinking about some windstopper shorts.

Anyone tried them? Are they very warm? (I'd prefer not, just thin and windproof).

They're pricey I know but IME worth the extra cost, and I have a 15% code at the moment too which would help.

Ta!

they'd be too warm for me in the summer over a liner short.
take a look at swrve. they have a range of material weights and cuts that should suit you and it's nicely made stuff.
