[#9485131]

I know they have only been in shops for a week or two but has anyone tried one properly yet? (Did they have demos at Aardrock?) I thought I was pretty much set on a T130 until I watched Guy K's S150 video. It's for general trail riding - local loops, trail centres and longer wild Scotland rides with long climbs and great descents (and the hike-a-bike that goes with that).

I'm trying to work whether it's Whytes replacement for the T129, which if so would seem perfect for my intended uses or more aimed at the enduro bros, where climbing might be compromised and it may be a bit too much bike for me for lots of the time. Would be in Aluminium flavour.

Cheers.

Also really interested in comments on this!
I had a T129, sold it for a T130, now looking at a S150 or trying to find a T129.

On a side note, T129 stock is none existent and they haven't included it in the 'New Arrivals' page on the Whyte site. I assume the S150 is it's replacement.

I managed to grab on the Saturday for a quick spin past the YHA and down the moor on the 8 mile demo loop. A very nice steed that didn't seem phased by my luddite attitude to ride it like you've stole it, but as ive just bought an rs160 (which left me grinning like a clown after the Ard Rock) I see no need to change BUT if I was looking again the RS160C at £3799 would have my money this year.

Winstanleys have some nicely priced t129s.

S150 looks like a great all-rounder.

A guy from whyte at tweedlove stand told me the t129 is no more. S150 isn't really a replacement given it's so much slacker and longer travel, but seems to fill the 29er trail bike slot in the their line for the time being at least.

Popped into local Whyte dealer today and they aren't actually in stock yet so will have to wait and see. Wanting full sus for a while so may stick with T130 idea!

November allegedly for the XL I believe. Not sure if that's correct. Others sizes may be out sooner.

So these arrived this morning...

Hoping to have one of them built later today. The medium will probably end up being our demo bike, but others currently available.

Mboy, you must be first in the queue as every other dealer suggested these weren't landing till September.
Another keen, potential buyer here too.
Not sure about the blue colour mind, the t-130s in that scheme look a bit meh.

I think the S-150S is perfect. Not a massive fan of carbon, and it comes under the £3k budget..

Mboy, is the S running the new '18 Revs with 35mm stantions, or older 32mm?

I ordered this first drop back in April, back when the bike was a mere rumour... So yeah probably one of if not the first dealer to get any!

You've answered your own question there mate... This is a "2018" bike 😉

I couldn't get a demo out of them at Ard Rock, so instead tried a few others.
The Pivot Switchblade and the new Marin Wolf Ridge were the true stars, absolutely brilliant fun bikes to ride.

Hold it with the vulture tactics eh! Give him a couple of weeks first... 😉

Speaking of which... Your name is now written on the Large's Box in permanent marker pen Renton, therefore it must be yours! When you coming to collect? 😆

And here is the medium fully built...

Looks awesome if you ask me! Had a bit of a play on a Large carbon version a few weeks ago which was a tiny bit big for me (I'm 5ft10), but only for a few minutes. Waiting to get a proper go on one myself to see how it fares, but all signs are pointing in the right direction shall we say.

Mboy where is your shop?

One of the mods on here took exception to me being "advertising" in the past (when genuinely I was just trying to be helpful), so I'm going to say pop down to your nearest Whyte dealer and see when they have one available... My (non work) email is in my profile if you have any questions you may like to ask me about anything not related to this bike though, if that helps.

Oh man that looks sweet.

It's a lot of bike though at 150 front and back

I'm not advertising but I've visited Mboys shop in Droitwich and found them to be very helpful. 😉

The proportions on that medium don't even look like s 29er!

I like the way the seat tube is shorter than normal.

I found to get the reach on a bike I wanted the seat tube would be too long meaning I couldn't run a decent length dropper.

This bike seems to cure that.

Many thanks Renton! Kettle is on ready and waiting, you still haven't answered my previous question when you're coming to pick yours up though... 😉

Though I understand your sentiments, it's not like Whyte haven't built a few full suspension bikes before. There's very little not to like on the new S-150, tyre clearances are huge, geometry seems spot on, specs are great, bigger pivot bearings, progressive rate linkage suitable for coil shocks should you want to upgrade etc. I suppose a Fox sprung version might persuade some of the SRAM-phobic customers even more but there's already 3 bikes in the range to be fair.

It's a lot of bike though at 150 front and back

Agreed, but first impressions (of the carbon one I had a quick spin on weeks ago) are it feels light on its feet for its travel.

Can you get frame only? struggling to find anywhere advertising them. I'm after a new frame.

Whyte don't do frame only, & it's a constant annoying niggle for potential customers ❗

I was out on Monday night with a rather quick friend who had a medium built up as a demo bike. I have a small '14 T129 which I love to bits, so we stuck them side by side before riding to do a comparison. The wheelbase is about 5" longer, angles and whatnot very different. The seat tube was a tiny bit longer than mine, with the same sort of standover. I am 5'7" on a good day and probably would have got on with it just fine.
I was on my hardtail so not a fair comparison, but it certainly seemed to make the trails come alive for my riding companion. We were both using Strava, so I checked: I set a couple of PBs on some stuff, and he had disappeared within 50 yards of anything pointing down. Normally I can keep up for at least 75 yards...
Overall tidy complete bike that looks like fab vfm. Didn't ride it, as flats don't go well with xc geek SPD shoes. Hope that helps.

There will be some S150's at the king queen enduro this weekend in pebbles/inners if anyone wants a closer look . Whyte are sponsoring the race and will have some 2018 bikes there. Not racing but might pop along and see in person what iam getting in november 🙂

If Whyte sold Al frame only or did a spec similar to Works or RS in Al I'd have pre-ordered already. Looks like a stunning bike with all the traits I'm looking for apart from the frame material. Gutted.

Don't think they could do a frame only as the S150 is designed to work with the custom fork which has a different offset to regular 29er forks. I'm currently lusting after the RS carbon version.

Also don't think the AL version spec is massively different to the RS apart from carbon cranks and it has a revelation instead of a pike. The 2018 revelation has the same chassis as the new Pike but with a cheaper damper which apparently is easy enough to upgrade to the charger II damper. Still has eagle GX transmission and reverb stealth dropper...
