I am about to buy a Garmin Edge 800 I thought it would be easy but there bundle this bundle that and massive price variations. I need the training aspect H/R & cadence also need to have mapping for those XC days out in the hills. Have looked into the 810 but for the extra outlay I am not sure the extra functions are worth it imo, anyway anyone spotted any good worth while deals also anyone got the 810? tell me I am wrong and what I am missing out on please ๐Ÿ˜•

I'm crossing my fingers for a firmware update of the 800, the bike/ride type options sound like a good thing (otherwise I have to manualy swap for cadence when swapping between the road bike and MTB).

Having had a quick glance at thisLink
I'd be inclined to say its worth getting the 810

One of my big bugbears with the 800 is that you can't connect wirelessly, or to an iPad, iPhone etc.

I also like the easy way to set which bike you're using

I'm wondering the same thing as you and might wait a little longer to see if the price of the 800 drops further when the 810 is released as the 810 doesn't seem to have any major new features that I am interested in.

The cheapest place I found for the 800 without maps is here. No idea how good the shop is though as I have not used them before

I was thinking of getting the stand alone unit ( I already have a cadence sensor and HR strap) and using free maps like those from talkytoaster for navigation duties. As the 800 will be mainly for the road bike for me I don't have much use for OS maps as I know all the local off-road stuff.

That said, as i'm going to be off the bike for a month or so now due to injury I'll wait and see if the price drops and hopefully the 810 will bring down the price of the 800.

After doing a little research the wireless tech also tracking your position on the net could be useful just need to research when 810s are out.

I'd keep an eye on those prices at CRC, the RRP on the 500's has been up and down more times than a fiddlers elbow over the last 6 weeks.
