Just trying to install a hed doctor on some new forks. I thought i knew what i was doing so went straight in there. It was a tight fit and i didn't install the 8mm bolt bit first so when tightening the main bolt it snapped.. I know you can get replacement bolts but i can't get the bottom 8mm part apart again. And the little rubber band has snapped.
Fix or replace?!
These are very, very simple to fit and remove, hence, you must be ham fisted. Take it to a bike shop. 😀
Don't need the o-ring...none of mine have them anymore
Hed Doctors are ****, mind, fit a proper SFN unless it's a carbon fork. But the top cap and bolt is nice and light.
See lots broken but only by those ham fisted with tools
You can get all the bits as spares
But a sfn works just as well
Yup first time I fitted mine I snapped it. Soon sorted though with a new bolt and it's never let me down in 5 years.
You just need to look at them in the wrong way and they snap
Yes.
Never again. SFNs for me now.
Hold the Allen key the 'wrong' way round and you will a)pretension the headset the right amount and b)not snap the bolt.
I think most people (myself included) learnt the hard way though 🙂

Yup. You only do it once.
They are meant to snap in the event of ham-fistedness .

Does bending one count?
