[#1072004]

Have decided these are/were the best system out there for fuss free durability, has anyone seen an Lx/Xt/XTR octalink chainset in a shop anywhere?

I'm sure some sort of finder's fee could be arranged!

Merlin have deore octalink 1 cranks in stock. The arms I think were pretty much the same as LX / XT, but with the latter 2 having better rings.

Cheers Andrew, I've found some LX at ride-on as well (page 20-something of a google search). Was really hoping for the flared arms that the XTs came with, but won't turn down a set of LX either.

had a set of Deore for ages on my Bianchi MTB, took an absolute battering as well, but I changed pedals on them so much the threads eventually fell out 😯

And cheers terry, if you can figure out a way to fit a 22t ring to your ultegras then your on!

Bought a spare XT one from CRC a year ago very very cheap, now in use, and wish I had bought a few! Also agreed very useful long lasting bit of kit. CRC have the Octalink Deore in at £39. The new-ish Deore Splined looks like it might need a different BB, on three sites they use the word splined but not 'octalink' so not sure?

I know, I saw the XT octalink cranksets on CRC, and a local shop had one for £50! Gutted I didn't buy it at the time.

Deore is now Hollowtech II i think, which is splined, but not octalink.

The octalink XTRs I got free from a mate have almost done three years on one BB, creak free, spinning smoothly. Amazing how ISIS got it so wrong when Octalink just quietly got on with it.

How about these (ebay)

Speaking of which, I've been waiting ages for a set of Octalinks I bought off the bay, if you don't bid on these I might as well myself.

FSA used to do Octalink as well

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7607 Probably too heavy for what you want, but they did do a few different types

Alasdair, cheers for that, I'm not an ebayer normally so it only just occurred to have a look.

I've now commissioned my ebaying friend to keep an eye on a couple of auctions for me 😉

Paul, will have a look at FSA, thought they'd only do ISIS though?
