Satisfy my curiosity - anyone got this set up?
Any tips, pitfalls, recommendations and pics would be appreciated!
Any tips, pitfalls,
I'll give you a tip.
Don't try using a Rohlhoff on a mountain bike unless you want a setup that drags like **** and slows you down loads.
Oh and get ready for sending it back to Germany to get the bearings changed on a regualr basis.
I had one on a GF Rig and it was grand. The EBB creaked like a bastid, but that was more to do with my heft than owt else.
I've had a Rohloff on a Chameleon and a Rig too. It works, that's all there is to it.
Oh, I'll give you a tip too.
Don't try using derailleurs on a mountain bike unless you want a setup that needs constant adjustment and maintenance and keeps jamming and breaking when you ride through sticks or mud.
The wheel bearings are a 61807 47x35x7mm and are less than £3 each from my LBS (Local Bearing Supplier).
LOL @ MTG and stu
i have previously had a alfine 8 sp and ran it on a love/hate with an EBB for nearly 2 years and never had any issues with creaking. below is a pic of when i had the alfine and that bike got nearly zero maintenance.
i have since upgraded to a rohloff on the same frame and still have all the advantages of hub gears but with a larger range.
2 years on my 456ebb prototype with no bother.
if your chainline is a bit off you can use a nexus sprocket as they are off set unlike the alfine one.
for pics google 456 ebb prototype, or search my thread history
Yes. Charge Duster. Alfine and EBB. Only problem I have had is that the Truvativ BB is made of cheese. This is being put right with a Hope.
Otherwise, nice.
I have 2: Thorn Raven Enduro with Rohloff, and Singular Peregrine with an Alfine.
Neither of them creak.
Both of them need slight adjustment occasionally, which I think is just chain-stretch.

Thorn frame will be for sale soon if you fancy giving it a go.
