Have just aquired a pair of talas forks with max travel being 130, orange specs say 140mm min, anyone run one of these frames with shorter forks?
Al
the frame has slacker angles to deal with longer forks.
shouldn't be an issue but personally i'd rather run a 140 fork. how much use is the talas though? if the frame is min 140 to 160, older frames used to be 100 to 130 and this is the sort of frame it's ideally designed for.

I'm not sure what you mean....The longer the forks are the slacker the angles become.
Running 130mm forks over 140mm would make the head/seat angle about 1/2 a degree steeper as well as BB slightly lower and wheelbase very slightly shorter.
I do understand geom and how it works. thx.
I was just saying the 09/10 frame has slacker angles than the original 5 (or earlier 5's) -1 deg (and an additional -.5 deg from the longer forks) i believe (making an overall total of -1.5 deg with 140 forks fitted). was trying to re assure that fitting 130 would be fine as the headangle is pretty slack for that year model so a small steepening of the headangle would be hardly noticeable.
Orange didn't just reply on the longer forks to adjust the geom they changed the headtube angle.
Well now you've explained yourself it does make sense whereas saying "the frame has slacker angles to deal with longer forks." I genuinly had no idea what you were talking about, and sorry yes I did think you were a noob, but I can't be the first to make that mistake.... ๐
Thx
i make that mistake regularly ๐
i didn't think it was worth fully explaining the ins and outs and i mistaken thought "shouldn't be an issue" would suffice. sorry.
