Sorry but I have to ask since there's nowhere I can go to see one in the flesh.

I'm after a cheapish bike to get through the winter which will then be my girlfriends first bike when I get something bouncy. She's 5'10" and I'm 6'2" so I'm thinking we might need a large.

Never had a 29er before. I have grown up and embraced pedalling but I don't want a joyless misery machine. Not scared of drops and jumps but obviously I'm planning to buy a proper trail bike next year so it's not the be all and end all.

Any opinions? I'm worried that the cheaper of the two will be too fragile and I don't want to be replacing parts right away. Everything on the spec list is totally unknown to me.

Can't comment on ride as never got a go on one but i can say I had it on my shortlist and sat on the highrr spec one in store and it just felt you did not get a lot for your money.
Purely my opinion. For what it is worth I went for the cube analog 29er in the end.
