Hi All,
Is anyone on here riding a Stumpjumper 650b and cann offer their thoughts, good or bad , on it?
Im looking to get anew bike in the comming months and would like your views as Ive always like the range, but only know them from 26 inch.
Thinking about ther 2016 Elite version. At the moment the other option may be Whyte T130s, but there is no shortage of reviews & opinions on that bike.
Cheers

Yeah, thanks. I'd have a test of one before buying, lots of places seem to stock them, never really see many out and about riding though.

We have my old 26" a 650b and a 29er, all carbon versions, two Experts and a S Works between us. Much prefer the 29er although I think Kevin will opt for taking the 650b on our Alps trip. All of them are great bikes, you wont go wrong with any of them.

Bikescene usually have some great deals on them

I have a 2014 29" Expert, running 650b+ wheels and tyres. It feels very fast and stable coming from an older 26" single pivot bike.

Have a demo of one - loads of places will let you ride one.

I test rode it and really liked it. For the money it has great kit and much better than the Whyte T130 which I found not only looked ugly but was a very heavy bike. it was only because I got an amazing deal on a Santa Cruz that I didnt go for it.

I've got a 2017 Camber, same front end as a stumpjumper. It's short, I'm 5'8" and the medium with a 70mm stem felt cramped. The large with a 70mm stem is the same length (middle of bar to seatpost) as a 2008 Ibis Mojo with an 85mm stem.

I'm also getting a lot of pedal strikes compared to the 26" Mojo it replaced. I'm not sure I'd want a 650b for this reason.

I do however love riding the camber, I imagine the Stumpy is just as much fun to ride.

I currently own/ride a 2015 Stumpy 650B as per my thread here: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/sprinters-stumpy-progress-thread

Rides very nicely, stock suspension is perfectly adequate for everything but hardcore DH. Although the only major upgrade I'm looking at is to upgrade the front fork from the 150mm Revelation to a 160mm Pike to slacken the head angle/raise the BB slightly. But mainly just because it's a bit stiffer so flexes less over extreme terrain.

But if you're just doing XC or trail centre type riding then the stock for will be more than up to the job.

I have a 2016 stumpjumper elite which I enjoy... the sizing comes up on the small side. I am on on XL at 6ft in height. I prefer it to the 2015 trance I had before...

Yep, got the 2016 Expert Carbon 650b. Great "do it all" bike which is what I wanted. It's more than capable at the likes of Bike Park Wales, but light enough for me to blast around the trail centres, or just quick evening spins around local fireroad.

I came from a 2013 Lapierre Zesty, which was 26 inch. The first 2 or 3 rides I was having a lot of pedal strike on technical climbs, but soon adjusted to it as I got the feel for the bike. You just naturally learn when to switch between sides to avoid the ground contact.

Being that much lower than my last bike though, it does feel a lot more planted and steady down the descents.

Fantastic bike in my opinion, would definitely buy it again.

fab bike for nearly all the different type of UK rail. So, unless youre off to the alps the whole time i reckon theyre fab.

SLightly low bottom bracket, so adjustment to riding style needed to avoid pedal strikes. But its great handling bike. I bought a cheap whole bike and swapped out most parts, but spec for the money is good.

Ditto for the sizing, as i went for a large when i might otherwise ride a medium in other brands.

Thanks for all the feedback, seems like everyone who has one likes it.

Davros, I have seen the Elite at Rutland and it is very tempting for 2k, the spec is a lot better than the T130s going for 500 more. I think the yellow is very bright, but could live with it.

What size are you looking for. I have a brand new expert carbon 650b for sale at a good price. It is a size small.

I bought a Stumpjumper 650b about 6 weeks ago. Compared to my previous bike, a 2011 Stumpjumper, it feels brilliant. Couldn't be happier with it, other than the slightly garish paint which was compensated for by £1300 off list price 🙂
I'm 5ft 9 and went for a large, all my previous bikes have medium, definitely try a size up from normal.

Mother, Thanks for the offer but small is no good for me.

Murf, Sounds like a great deal. Did you go for the bright yellow Elite?

Sorry for the slight hijack but do you guys find the paint ok on the recent stumpjumpers? I looked at them last year and there were a lot of comments about the paint being very thin and scratching or wearing away really easily.

I haven't found the paint scratching easily, but there's rubbing on the chain stays form my feet that have gone through quicker than I'd have imagined.

I'm not precious about what my bike looks like however, so it's not a big issue. I bought the bike to ride it until it dies.
