Looking at a new CX bike and considering a superX - looks great and I've enjoyed riding the CAADX which has similar geometry. The new superX, though, requires a symmetrically dished rear wheel - wondering how much of a ballache this is in reality from anyone who owns one?
Thinking specifically for racing and wheelset compatibility between two bikes. Axle size would be another issue but not such a big deal, seems like re-dishing rear wheels between bikes is perhaps a step too far?
Easy answer for racing would be to just get another CAADX, but the superX does look really nice, and is meant to be great for year round riding over the trails.
Had a superx a couple of years ago before ‘dale introduced the bespoke rear wheel. I loved it. Broke the frame in its first cx race (mech tore off and smashed the seat stay to bits). The team moved away from cannondale after numerous problems with lefties, the final straw being the change to bespoke wheels that would have resulted in a massive investment in new wheels. Fantastic bikes but big commitment required ref the wheels.
Mates just rebuilt his from last years CX races (yeah, almost a year later) and this year had the opportunity to get hold of a new bike (another SuperX) but he’s sticking with his super reliable last years because he says “it just fits and works” He did have a new rear mech too, but that was because he put his size nine through it whilst jumping back on after a step run up.
I like em’
My other half has one - it's a nice bike.
The rear wheel thing is a pain for your mentioned points - she also has a CAADX and as a result you can't swap wheels around.
You can fit a non dished wheel in there, but it's not something I would do for a muddy race.
Thks - I ended up making the prosaic choice of another CAADX. Bit of a shame as the superX looks fantaastic, but I thought it best to keep things simple.
I got a 2016 Superx ... so not the dished rear wheel version; great bike.
Friend has the 2017 version. It has loads more mud clearance at back, and notably no shelf to collect mud behind rear wheel which is a dream if racing cx.
I personally wouldn’t get one until they ditch the dished wheel faff; but certainly swap over if/when they do.
