A bit like this from wolfhound but without the price tag wolfhound forks

I posted the same question on MTBR but the majority posted were those pace like carbon offerings, which i don't want.

Do curtis do custom stuff?

If you want to kick it old-school, check out this Cannondale P-Bone I've got on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130373042337&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

Not disc compatible though.

The Vicious cycles steel fork I picked up on ebay is excellent - but not sure I'd be willing to pay the asking price for a new one.

Otherwise Project 2s or Salsa cro moto ?

Several UK custom builders I contacted refused to build a rigid fork for disc use - not really sure why.

what's the Axle to Crown on those? If about 400, try Identity Tuning forks. Nice traditional fluted design, a bit lardy (1100g) but pretty cheap and stiff as all hell laterally (which the straight legged carbon ones aren't IME) while offering decent vertical compliance

I had a pair of these on my first singlespeed. very nice forks.

I've seen the vicious cycles forks very nice they are to. That Identiti looks decent enough.
