[Closed] Anyone made a 'sociable' tandem MTB?

Mme Gaidong is scared of mountain biking but strangely she finds the thought of a normal tandem (and my sweaty crack in her face) not so appealing. I'm not suggesting it would make for a good ride but for pure comedy's sake has anyone made a MTB version of these? That way I could reassuringly stroke her hand as we leap over the rooty bits... 😀

They're fun to ride one-up 😉

You're right. I could stroke my own hand then when it gets a bit puckery!

She looks like a bigger-boobed 1930s Drew Barrymore does she not?

This sounds like yet enother idea for me and my wife (I've tried a few ways to teach her how to ride a bike, thus far they have all ended in arguments).
However, it would need to be balanced off centre as I weigh twice as much as her.

I like the look of the Hase Pino but as the front wheel is under the bum of the rider on the lower deck I'm not sure off-roading is going to be practical.

They used to hire them out in the FoD.
Buddy Bikes I think they were called.

As stu said they had buddy bikes at pedalabikeaway in fod. Two of them. They were based on a cheapo steel mountain bikes. Weighed an absolute ton but they were a great laugh on smooth (and wide!) trails.

The ultimate sociable bike? See a lot of them round these parts clutering up the bike paths around the lakes.

Edit: Although not strictly a bike as it has more than two wheels. 😳

Disappointed to find that despite being on STW, nobody has yet suggested this as a more appropriate option...

Where have I been going wrong all my life! Funny for the Karlsberg one; I had a friend come back from a louty stag weekend in Romania describing such a vehicle. Now I can picture what he was talking about!

For a tandem sociable you'd definitely want cranks at 180° sync, so you could keep your thighs hotly pressed together...

Well, suspension forks help a lot with that! Great fun off road, actually.

That reminds me, I need to pester STW about doing a recumbent test soon, since there are a bunch of good full sus off-road trikes out now.

I have had a go on one of the Pedalaway ones. If your partner is afraid of solo MTBing then don't get a buddy bike as they are ****ing terrifying.

The passenger handlebar is fixed to the frame, and I almost tore the thing off, the urge to steer was so strong but the pressure did nothing. Also when the bike turns you end up either scraping the floor with your buddy above you, or towering over him feeling like you're being ejected from the thing.

White knuckle ride that was, and that was only round the car park!

These options would be better I reckon, get Ben to hook you up.
