Apologies if it is genuine - I know it says 'collection' but with a description like that is certainly won't be anyone on here.

People thinking of e-mailing the seller questioning the ownership of the bike should remember they are not helping the recovery of the bike, as in the recent stolen/recovered bristol bike.

Yep I know cheeky or what not even shifting it to a different town. I've emailed guy who had it stolen and contacted him on various sites, as D/V says no-one email seller, let the police and victim sort out a trap or something. The thieves obviously aren't very bright so no-one muck it up!

If it were me I'd 'buy' the bike on ebay, cash on collection and arrange it all through/with the police. Rough justice doesn't get them off the streets, jail (hopefully) will at least dissuade repeat performances.

it's good to see stuff like that getting returned, but seeing a bike as gorgeous as that on ebay nicked by some little f%&*er makes me feel sad for all the ones that get away. ๐Ÿ™

still, result here! ๐Ÿ™‚

I know this is you hora, and normal people will probably be a bit more sensible, but if you see a fishy looking bike on the 'Bay, DON'T do this.

Me and a couple of other people on this site have had good results after spotting stolen bikes on eBay. Any such sightings are total gifts to the police because they can get the seller's name and home address without having to tip them off.

It should go without saying, but getting loads of "hilarious" questions from bored middle aged IT consultants might make a thief suspicious and cause them to pull the auction, meaning one more bike thief gets away and one less bike gets returned to its rightful owner.

If you think something is dodge, by all means do a bit of digging, refer it to the police behind the scenes, but don't get in the way of the police trying to do their job.

i've been looking through ebay for a bike for a mate (as on another thread!), and have spotted a couple more where the descriptions/detail just don't sit right:

Number 1

Number 2

anyone else agree, or am i reading too much into them?

Zeus, saw your thread and I've stuck a bit of advice on there.

Theflatboy, that Patriot definitely looks suss, the Kona looks more like a lazy listing.

If you can match either up to a theft then the police will be interested, but they don't really have time to chase up the speculative stuff.

yeah i thought so more about the patriot. so unless you can point them in the direction of the previous owner then it's a lost cause?

Not necessarily but they probably won't pull out all the stops to follow it up. It might have been reported as stolen or registered on www.immobilise.com, which is something else I should have added to Zeus's thread.

Says it's listed in Stoke on Trent, so try contacting Staffordshire police:

I hate being a suspicious old bastard but spotted this on ebay last night:

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/lukeaddicott

Two Orange 224s for sale by the same guy, it's probably genuine but meh, it's how it is these days...

I agree. I see my prejudices forming, as most of the people selling these bikes also have feedback for items relating to hot hatches, car stereos etc.

I found this lovely thing
