Planning on riding it on the 22nd Feb but looking at web cams from today there is a lot of snow on the ground 600m up ๐Ÿ™

What is the weather like atm, any chance of a thaw? Anyone suggest a low level plan b?

Was there on Thursday/Friday this week. Yes there is a lot of snow on Snowdon and others.

Can't imagine much chance of a thaw between now and 22nd Feb.

It is VERY wet there at the moment.

Penmachno has a bit of snow as of this morning. Not sure how long it will last.

Don't bother with Snowdon. If you wanted mountains rather than trail centres, go up moel Eilio, across the ridge, and down to telegraph valley. That's quite nice and shouldn't be as snowy as the higher bits of snowdon.

Biking on snowdon until mid march is really a gamble. The clue is in the name of the mountain.
I am local (sometime) and drove through llanberis this morning. The snow is quite low today.
If there is snow please do not attempt it on a bike. The mountain rescue have enough to do.

The last downhill to Telegraph Valley would be, er, interesting.

And which way do you go up?
Bwylch Y Groes side?

@Rusty

Its fairly steep, I will give you that. But good fun!

Not sure where that is, but I used to live in Brynrefail. So we pedalled up the back road to waunfawr. Then up to the summit of Moel Eilio. (We pushed some of it).

Descend all the way down to llanberis.

That's the one I meant, not Bwilch Y Groes, obviously ๐Ÿ™„

We usually head up Moel Elio from the Waunfawr path, but there must be a few ways, some steeper than others.

Do you go through the gate first and over the high point of the shoulder before turning left for the summit?

And do they still have raves up there? ๐Ÿ˜€

And how you could you move away from Brynrefail?
It'd be like leaving Balamory. ๐Ÿ™‚

There's snow down to around 700m - perhaps lower at the moment - even on Moel Eilio (which is about 1 mile from my house). But it's not particularly well consolidated so if it gets warmer it'll all go in minutes.

Re riding Moel Eilio, there's no right of way over the mountain and the ground's soft as hell, I'd recommend keeping it legal or waiting for summer.

If you want a loop, try over Bwlch y Groes, down to Waunfawr and road to the Ranger. Up the Ranger and over Bwlch Maesgwm then down Telegraph Valley.

Llyn Cowlyd loop is low enough to avoid the snow.
