[#4839984]

Just had a play with the forks on my Giant Trance X2, bought in March 2012. The Giant web sire says that these use the new Overdrive 2 (non) standard, but my forks definitely take a standard 1 1/8" stem.

Can't say I'm bothered. It will certainly make it easier to fit a new stem. I just wondered in anybody knew why a 2012 Trance X2 wouldn't have the forks it's supposed to have.

Says on selected models, just a generic description about the Trance

Yup. IIRC it's OverDrive rather than OverDrive2 as standard and it's cause it's an X2. OverDrive2 is X0 & X1 only I believe - I've got a 2012 X2 as well and spent ages working out what I needed when I wanted a shorter stem. Good job too as OD2 are a pain to source.

Yep mine is normal.....which means that headsets and stems should be easier to source. Obviously I'm gutted at missing out on the extra stiffness of the steering though ๐Ÿ™„

Well there you go. You learn something new every day. In my case it's to read the spec properly ๐Ÿ˜ณ I never noticed that little asterisk by the overdrive 2 bit, but looking more carefully at the full spec for each model it does indeed look as though Overdrive 2 was only on the X1 and X0 models in 2012. So a normal tapered fork, normal headset bearings and normal stems for me then. Result.

Thanks,

Andy
