... before I take a knife to them!? Its like the bead is super-glued on and theres not enough width in the tyre to push it away from the rim. I've hurt my throat growling at it (that didn't work) and there's no skin left on the sides of my thumbs, so any tips gratefully received!
Stupid q but are the tyres at room temperature? That's why I changed back to tubes and wider rims for road/cx!

Dez - yes, warm them up in the garden to make them more pliable. What rims and tyres?
I normally just push both beads into the centre of the rim and then pull them off. Sometimes, if they're a bit tight I'll use a tyre lever.
If you can't even get the bead to release from the rim then maybe try standing on the tyre?
Tyre lever can't break the seal. Nothing can! Even tried one of those old fashioned metal tyre levers...
You have my sympathy, I ended up taking mine to the lbs and they didn't find it easy which was quite reassuring. 😀

Just to put slicker tyres on. Then it was because... because I got mad. Done it now, found some Lezyne levers with a good hook on em!

Bike tyres and light coloured carpet seems a risky combination !
I'd be more worried about the badger spaff leaking on the carpet!!
I have been reduced to using mole grips carefully applied as near to the rim as possible without scratching them.
Often putting wheel flat on the ground and standing on the tyre breaks the seal and let's you get the tyre off. Alternatively swearing and stomping round the garden occasionally works.

Ah, but when you live on yer own... maintenance comes ahead of cleanliness 🙂
