Just on the total off-chance, is anyone about zermatt on the 27th July or so? Heading up there for a day or so before going to verbier for a week and thought Id see if anyone was about that could point me in the direction of some nice trails! Ive seen the online stuff and thinking of maybe taking the bike up the gornergart and going from there maybe.
On the AM bike but not afraid of a dh course, so any advice on the best trails about would be great.
thanks in advance
Go to the main bike shop. Guys are super helpful and can point you in the direction of the trails. There is a world cup DH track (with the most mental hip jump I've ever seen) but most stuff is nice technical singletrack. Just watch where you ride and it's pretty sensitive in that area. The local guides have worked hard to get access.
I tried this route last summer:

It's a pretty long climb but worth the effort. I would seriously advise against:
1st Variation: Descent for the Expert
A wide road way leads to Furgg and joins a single trail there, which holds a bit of a challenge for the expert.
It's basically the black run off the back of the chairlift and it was just a boulder field with no path. I ran out of skill halfway down the second section and went over the bars..:-)
Oh dear, hope the over the bars didnt result in an injury but I would imagine it did on a boulder field!
Whats the main bike shop called, I hear there are a few?
If you only have one day in Zermatt best to buy the "bike pass" (45 swiss) which is the cheapest option for a single day in Zermatt. This gives you unlimited access to the schwartzee lift and sunnegga underground train. lots to keep you amused for a day.
One run of gornergrat is 40 swiss (ish).
If you can get a pass for the day (with the bike, which, as far as i'm aware has not been available for the last 5 years in Zermatt - i've not been this year yet) then awesome. ride from Gornergrat, blauherd, & Rothorn. Beware thou, the trails on 'strength in numbers' are slightly made for the camera and not that exciting to actually ride. Also lots of walkers on the gornergrat trail (best to ride that first thing or last thing). Train runs from 7am-7pm so plenty to keep you occupied for a day!
Ah cool, thats great thanks neil. Didnt realise that you couldnt get a pass on the Gornergrat but think i get there at like 15:00 the day before so ill go enquire about that one.
looking forward to this one.
