Thinking of getting one But I've read all kinds of reviews and not sure what to do.

The 510 would do me and the reviews are brilliant plus £200 cheaper.

My work mate has one - keeps crashing, doesn't link to the new sensors all the time just the usual Garmin "should have tested it before release" problems.

I think you already know what you want.

Mate of mine has one and the firmware update has ironed out the bug according to him.

Don't know how Garmin getaway with releasing products that are bugged and don't run 100%

510 with navigation is what I want. The profiles interface is excellent. Shame the unit is so big. The 1000 is still half baked - and will always be too big.

Navigation any good on 810? Not that I ever need it.

Nav is good with the 800, being the same size as the 810 though the screen is small... I see mine as a good bike computer with nav.

open street maps is a great resource, as is open mtb maps.

if its specifically nav your after, the satmap gets good reviews but is bigger..

I had my first glitch with my 810's navigation recently. A preplanned road route turned out to want to take me up a private drive when actually on the ground. No matter, a couple of hundred metre detour had me on the right lane. Only snag was during that few hundred metres the stupid thing recalculated my route using totally different roads (a main A road in a totally different valley). Even though I was back on the right original route it refused to revert. I had to stop the navigation mode and reload the route in order to sort it out. Annoying.

No thanks, I already have one 😉 Love the interface and I rather like the touch screen, which is a first for me, but the form factor is too big for my liking. My 500 is lovely, the 510 I could live with as a one size fits all for the addition of navigation. The 1000 is really too much.

I'm still coming to grips with the navigation options, but it is nice to see where I'm going sometimes. and I have footflaps nice OS-like maps.

I recently bought an 810 and so far, apart from learning how to use it, it's been pretty good and I like it.

I've loaded rides and followed preplanned routes, same issue as convert on one ride (annoying too) but so far it's been great at telling me where to go. I've done some long distance routes and it has seen me complete them with little misshaps.
Issues I have relate to not knowing how to use it properly and using Garmins forum has proved little in help, YouTube has helped more but then that only offers simple user guides which I know.

Main problem I have (and posted a thread here but no one offered any help) relates to dropping in on preplanned routes. I'd like to start a couple of routes 25ks in but when the route is found the 810 wants to take me back to the start of the route, thats annoying. All I want to do is drop in, ride it. Also I'd like to do some routes the opposite way round.
Any help to these issues I have would be welcome.

Why did I choose the 810? I thought the 1000 would be too much and I read a review on it which said it was full of annoying bugs.. so I thought I'd go for something thats been proven to work so far.

Edge 800 with full GB 1:50k maps currently £218 at Halfords - seems a good deal to me
