The boy has grown out of his MX14 so we are looking at the MX16. Is it much bigger? We don't want something that he'll outgrow in 6 months.
He's 46" tall.
I think there's one in the garage if you want one. Bit scratched. But much loved.
Cheers fella. I'll drop you a line.
Oh no hang on... I think Kitt's on that now. I'll check.
Kitts 6. G was on it until about that age too.
Let me see. I have too many kids and too many kids bikes.
We've got an MX 16 in the attic but would have to sneak it out (got an 8 year old that moved on from it ages ago but very protective as it was his first "new" bike rather than hand-down).
However we also have a 20" Islabikes Beinn that may be a better long term option.
The eldest rode that comfortably from 4.5 yrs with no problem (can't remember his height back then), and across 2 kids it has seen 6 years of proper off road use so plenty of scuffs and chips but mechanically good - think it even now has a Deore mech 🙂
I also modded the gearing to significantly drop the chainring size so it can be pedalled on proper off road. And gripshift replaced with thumbshifter that small hands can actually use.
We are just up the M-way in Preston if these are of any use - would be nice if something went to a proper mtb home. We also have some friends with a mint Beinn if you want something a bit more expensive.
I went straight to 20" for mine and they were small. Pretty sure they were smaller than that intially tbh and inside leg was 46 cm iirc
Looked like they were midgets on 29 ers tbh and could not really get their feet down even at the lowest saddle height
Advantage is you get gears though and years of use
Can measure a 20 " for you if required
I see they no longer do "suspension" forks which is good as I can barely compress them never mind the kids..keep meaning to swap out for rigid ones tbh to save weight as they do nothing so i would avoid suspension tbh
Like you I just assumed the 16" would get a years use and a 20 " years of use

I'll pick up the email tonight. Also quite busy this week as got "Bespoked" handmade frame show on friday so lots of last minute rescuing things from powder coat / sticker cutters etc 🙂

Picked up an MX16 last night. £56 of ebay. I'm guessing that it will be 3rd or 4th hand but it was in pretty good nick. The lad wanted a blue one, so mick_r's silver one is still up for grabs AFAIK.
Sorted little bike. Can't wait to see him on it.
mick r you have mail re the 20" islabike, that would be ideal for my 5yr old as his isla 16" is just getting too small now.
FIL lives in preston if you can't/won't deliver...
mick r...mail from me too.
He saw it.

Best 50 quid I've spent in ages.
Get in 🙂
Just realised that I've not been back home since I mailed you about this... Went straight from office to Manchester airport, to Taiwan, with a tape measure.
