[#2947613]

I'm planning to ride to North Yorks tomorrow and it was suggested that NCN route 1 would be better than the road for this section.

This is what I've mapped so far. Planning to leave Ed at about 0600 so I can get down the A703/A72 while it's reasonably quiet.

So does anyone have a GPX of N1 or any other suggested improvements to the route (other than not doing it!)

Ta

Have you emailed TSY or Druidh? They should be able to help.

TJ - its going to be about a 14 hour day as it is, I don't like to think how much longer it'd be off road ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

DGOAB - I'll get onto druidh, should really have tried him first!

That's a long route. I do a similar thing from "home" to "work" occasionally but goes further east and not as long. I don't think that the route 1 to Jedburgh would benefit you much as your route is pretty direct and has possibly less climbing as it is than the options this gives. FWIW i think your route is pretty much as straightforward and unhilly as you can make it (weirdly I've actually ridden on and around all those roads at one point in time). After Castle Carrock I might go via Croglim, Melmerby, Knock, Dufton though as those back roads are nice (as is the bakery/cafe in Melmerby).

FWIW, I did Kirkby Stephen - Peebles as part of my LeJog route. We headed out of KS on the B6259 and crossed the A66 (riding along it for 1km or so) onto the army land which is usually OK to cross on a bike. That took us to Dufton (YH) and then via a number of small roads to Brampton, Longtown & Lanhgolm before cutting on to the B709 to Traquair.

From there, I'd use the road south of the Tweed, avoiding the A72.

I'm not sure I'd be looking to head as far East as Jedburgh for your destination. Looks like a big detour!

Thanks bajsyckel and Druidh (just sent you a message on FB but you can ignore it!) I shall take your points on board.

Maybe Adam was just trying to extend my route as he promised me a pint if I manage it ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

The B709 option also takes you past the Samye Ling which might be handy for a food stop.
