Just wondering how far the chainring can be away from the seatpost for this to work ok, if anyone can help?

They are designed to work on the inner chainring of a road double chainset, although they can be twisted on the seat-tube to go a bit further out.

Are you going to use it on a single front ring setup? Cos I reckon it wouldn't be that effective without a front derailleur there too; it just sits next to the chain ring.

One of these might work, they're slidable to meet different requirements. I have one on a standard mtb triple but they may work with a single.

I've heard good things about these Jump Stop.

I have read horror stories about these K-Edge.

Nothing wrong with the K-Edge, got one on the roadie where it's doing a good job. Expensive though. If your seat tube flares out towards the BB you won't be able to use the Deda.

Cheers guys,

Just ordered the same bash as you rocketdog!

So looks like the N-stop is the one to go for.
