I've just bought these items seperately, is there anything I should know before cracking on as the very dark black and white pictures on the vague instructions don't really help.
cheers

It's a simple job, you need a small amount of "free play" in the inner cable to ensure it stays up ie: it's very sensitive.
And don't forget to check where the cable goes when the post is lowered, I had a cable/wheel interference on full compression issue that needed a little "cable management"

I managed to fit it without breaking it so it must be easy. Only potentially tricky bit is knocking the retaining pin thing out and then back in again.

doc - I could be wrong but looks like theres a spare pin in with the remote kit and also a (very) small bar that could be used for knocking the pin out - I'm guessing here, and prob wont know until I get looking at it tonight - crank bros instructions are awful and it would have been handy if they'd included a part list so I knew what the bits are for

Yes that's right- if I remember correctly- it's a few months since I did it.
You have to knock the pin nearly all the way out, there is a little piece in the kit that you drive it through with- a bit like drifting out a bearing, I used a small soft faced hammer to knock it through but it is quite tight so you have to be careful to hit it hard enough/not too hard! And a vice would have been handy when I did mine as of course the pin pokes out the other side you have to hold it steady without resting it on anything.
Spare pin useful as it is potentially easy to bend it.
