i despise them.
everywhere is packed with people, all the roads are full of cars....
i hate them.
i asked my boss if i could work bank holidays and take the days of when i wanted them.
he gave me some boolax about it not being possible due to insurance....
🙁
Surely go for a ride then!
I dislike them as it gives me an excuse to get pissed on sunday and feel like poo today.
i hate having to work bank holidays. I've been on shift for every bank holiday weekend so far this year. Even down to work christmas and boxing day.
😡
wouldn't say i 'hate' them as such, but i agree with what you're saying ton.
today is particularly rubbish cos my parents are coming to visit (which in itself isn't bad!), so i can't go for a ride very far and none of my mates want to ride at all. so, boring local jaunt for me in a few minutes before the 'rents arrive and before the locals clutter up the mersey valley with their lives!
I usually prefer working them as well (I worked the one on beginning of May) then taking it as TOIL when I want but I've got some DIY to finish and the weather is good so it seemed like a good opportunity to do the painting and get out for a ride.
I appreciate a few extra days off, but why are we compelled to have to do something with the day? I'd rather just go for a ride and chill out for the rest of the day.
Saying that I'm off to Longleat in a bit with the son, although the bikes are going with us too 🙂
this is the first bank holiday monday i have had off in 12yrs 🙂
so this ones quite good
Move to Scotland then 🙂
Nearly five hours of riding yesterday in the dumfries and galloway hills (not the trail centres I hasten to add)and met one person.
Very peaceful.
I like them - work is nice and quiet so I can get on with it without speaking to anyone!
I used to hate them.
Now I love them.
🙂
I agree. Looking forward to tomorrow 🙁
I'm working today and worked yesterday, but I am in Abu Dhabi
working today, but went riding yesterday and day before so I need to rest my legs anyway!
It's a day off work.
What's not to like?!!!!
i despise them.
everywhere is packed with people, all the roads are full of cars....
grumpy today Tony?
I had a nice lie in, and am now going to wander into town (on foot, obviously) to check out the totty and have some coffee. It doesn't seem too bad at all, especially with this glorious sunshine...
'everywhere is packed with people'
i did'nt think there was anyone in the north this weekend, i'd have put money down that everyone had jumped in cars and descended on cornwall - its frikken crazy down this way!!! : (
A bank holiday is an excuse to stay exactly where you are and doing burger all while every other mad bstard clogs up the roads, and how can a paid day off be a bad thing? surely its just a case of finding a way to enjoy your time without following the sheep
A day for local trails !!
Just done a 4h ride of all my local wooded singletrack, total people met = 4 dog walkers, 3 horse riders and a couple of walkers, all happy and polite, no trail rage or bad vibes - overnight drizzle had damped the dust down nicely and the trails were perfect 😀
Finished off with a pint of 'Fursty Ferret' at a canalside pub, then wobbled back the final mile or two home.
Just time for a bit of garden lazing before a 4 day week at work, what's not to like ?????
😉
Always work on a bank holiday. Company operates 24/7 52 weeks a year.
Love 'em,day off work what's not to love ? Mind I'm not back at work till a week tomorrow, even more happy days............
i worked this bank holiday, and because of it i got 2 days off when i want it 🙂
Now i can get a long weekend when its not crowded everywhere
i love them,
no work and time to ride my bike
I have been out this morning - admit that it was 11:30 start, so expected to see a fair few hikers, familys - dogs etc on Cannock Chase.
My mate and I did perhaps 1 hr in the valley taking up the less used trails and then we worked over to do the 'DOG'.
The 'DOG' is described as a "technical trail" best suited to experienced riders... however I passed 2 familys in different parts with children about 5 - 6 yrs on argos bikes.. not fun, Bank Holiday Madness if you ask me.. going to ask Chase Trails their view of this type of usage..
I love bank holidays, its time for me to recuperate, a small break in my busy life, in which I can spend some time with my family.
Neverfastenuff, I can't believe you're getting wound up by a couple of families enjoying a ride around the Follow the Dog trail, leave them alone to enjoy their bank holiday too.
Maybe Chase Trails can put some picnic tables along it then - cos where I was when I met 'familys' was stage 1 - nice and fast and twisty - then the new bit after the legburner .. the one with jumps etc... lovely and fast...
WHATS THE POINT OF ALL THE WARNING SIGNS ??
Between being on-call and working overtime this weekend (from home), I've earned enough to pay for half of the frame I'm saving up for, whilst still having two bbqs and a load of friends round to enjoy the fantastic weather. God bless bank holiday rates 😀
pedal head - youre lucky. Ive been on call this weekend and have so far earned less than my normal hourly rate for doing so.
I love bank holidays, this one has been extra nice as I've just had 2 weeks off work so I don't have to do a full week when I go back!
Got to lie in, spend all day with my kids and do some gardening have a beer. Much preferred to a day in the office.
And if I didn't have kids I'd have been doing what simonfbarnes did, you can't beat a hot day by the thames in Richmond to bring out the totty
well the on-call is at 0.35x of normal rate, but that's of course 24x7, from friday 5:30pm to tuesday 09:00. The main dosh comes from the 65 hrs of overtime I negotiated to screw up two BH weekends, even though the actual work involved was only going to be about ~25 hours. result.
Neverfastenuff,it's holiday time & people take their families out. It's called being a parent.....
Both my lads were riding at a young age around the Chase & still do now at 15 'n 16...
I've been pedalling around the City of London, with my little friend. It was virtually deserted. Nice fry up in a cabbies' cafe in Smithfield, and a exploratory pootle through some hidden back alleys and back passages. Fantastic.
Worked today in Netherlands. Will take a day off in lieu late June for a long weekend in the Lakes. I would do this for most bank holidays if I could. Now I just need to figure out how to justify working on some days over xmas as I chuffin hate having to take all that time off with all the usual [s]excesses[/s]delights that xmas offers.
Bah humbug.
Off for once and headed to college valley it was very busy but out on the trails be lucky if there was dozen out, I love Northumberland.
Gives a day to catch up and chill have some fun.
