As above, my Vaya does the job fine but feels portly on winter road rides, and I have another bike I can tour on.
How big can you go tyre-wise with mudguards?
Is fitting a rack a bodge too far?

There was a new Jamis reviewed on road.cc that got their first 10/10, think it dealt with this conundrum perfectly.
