How are the trails?

We're fancying getting away from the mud and heading down tomorrow but if the trails are snowy or icy we'll probably do something else instead.

Cheers.

We still have alot of snow from Thursday night that has turned to ice here at ground level here in Cardrona. So it will be snowy and icy at GT.

Still should be fun tomorrow, I'll be out on the bike.

Yeah I'd like to know too. Pentlands this evening were fantastic out of tree cover, frozen and a few cm of snow to make things grippy. Had a great blast down from maidens to harlaw in the dark. Clubbidean and pistachio still mudfests though as not frozen in there.

Even Whinlatter was 50% unrideable today, so wouldn't fancy your chances up there!

I rode over to GT today. The climb up to Buzzards does have snow on it but is riding well, there's been a decent bit of traffic on it by the looks of things. Once you hit buzzards the snow is pretty deep but there's 4x4 tracks all the way around the fire roads. I went as far as the start of Spooky Woods climb which looked rideable, again the snow has all been flattened down. However, if it ices up over night I can't imagine it will be much fun

Bit tricky in places! Spooky was a bit pointless, unless you just like riding in snow and sliding about uncontrollably, which I do. But the climbing all went fine. Some bits are fairly snow free- bits of falla, pie run and mushroom pie, frinstance, where the trees are tight. Glad we went but it's going to be a lot less fun if it ices up.

Quite a bit of black ice on the tarmac at the trailhead btw, almost ended meself there which would have been embarassing.

That was ace, proper winter wonderland, pretty slippery as the slush had turned to ice but all the tracks in it made it surprisingly grippy.

Me, and it were ace. I just minced about on the blue stuff, nothing much higher up than blue velvet. All fine, Zoom or Bust fine too. Couple of inches of snow perfectly grippy.

However, experience suggests that an ice-over is on it's way.

Aye, I guess we'll have that weird after-snow thing where it thaws everywhere except for the thick band of ice down the middle of every trail ๐Ÿ™

Great fun in the snow today at GT. Spooky was just a great laugh, I had forgot how much biking in the snow can be. Zoom or Bust was nice and icy, our final off piste descent was almost normal beneath the trees.

Grand day out indeed.

yeh zoom or bust was cool today, slower but kinda more techy to ride. the one after spooky was pretty icy so we bailed onto the blue after that, falla brae was pretty clear though.
