whenever i've been hit with customs charges they've always held the package until they've been paid. would be surprised if they invoiced you after delivery - anyone had that happen?

Yes.

Also had multiple problems with the Marzocchis I bought from Jenson, and no warranty...

Yup, I've been invoiced after delivery from Jenson, but I factored that in and it was still a bargain...

People like Fedex usually pay the duty when the item enters the country. Then invoice after.

ParcelFarce will always hold it until you pay the duty plus they add their 'handling' charge (strange as you've already paid the postage...).

Ayup, s'what happened to me. Was (from memory) about 14 quid on a value of 38. But that was for bard which are 95 quid on CRC, so I don't mind too much 😉

That's nearly 50% tax, are you sure that's right? Did you include the handling charge?

HMRC didn;t charge me a penny when I shipped in a Lib Tech snowboard deck with a UK rrp of just over £400, but then I had to pay £15 duty on a £45 Manhattan Portage messenger bag.

No rhyme or reason.

Yup sorry, just dug out the invoice. £4.53 VAT and £10 "advancement charge". Cheers Fedex!

confused as to why you thought buying a crapper model from the states was better than getting these from CRC

On the other hand, if they work properly it's a good deal, even with the extra bill.

Bought a couple of things from Yan_Kelly (China) on ebay - including a Giant Anthem frame and have never been charged and import duty or VAT. Shouldnt have said that really! I've got another Anthem frame on the way - First time for everyhing and all that! Anyway I've done the maths and I'd still be quids in. With the exchange rate I got it for £700 brand new. Import duty is 3.5% plus VAT at 17.5% so potentially about £860 plus £35 postage. Even if I could get one in large in the country, which I can't anywhere, best I can find them for is £895 plus postage. They declare everything as low value gifts. How a bike frame sneaks through I'll never know.
