Thinking about getting a dolan fxe stealth or a dolan pre cursa to be used on road as a nipping to the shops...going to work..and also as they are single speed fixies also getting my fitness levels up hopefully. Anybody got any experience with dolan as a brand or have either of the above bike.
Dolan have been arround for years both as a cutom builder, designer (for fabrication elsewhere) and importer of open mould stuff from the far east. A bit like a cross between Planet-X and a proper old skool frame builder. They're very popular amongst roadies.
Do you have a road bike as well? They take a lot less maintenance than MTB's so unless you're doing thousands of miles in miserable winter weather fixies are simplicity overkill. And if you are riding in those conditions, then you'll want mudguards, which fixies dont have, making them a bit of a contradiction! And drops are more comfortable than bullhorns.
Sell them by the bucketful here, loads for the comuter market as well as the traditional riders who want to train or race on them... we don't have any problems with them
my fixie commuter takes its inspiration from the Dolan FXE Stealth...
I do 20 miles a day on it and since getting it I'm fitter than I've ever been, and that includes doing the same commute on a road bike.
and I'd go for the FXE rather than the track bike.
I have an Ares SL road bike from Dolan. Excellent bike and excellent service from them.
Eh? My "fixie" has drop bars, brakes, mudguards and mounting for a rack. And the zero maintenance has a distinct attraction in the winter months. The Dolan Pre Cursa is, however, foremost a track bike, and is designed... for the track - so no mounting points and no rear brake possible (so fixed only). If you can live with that, the geometry will be fine for the road, but you'll probably need to set the saddle back due to the steep seat tube angle.
But... the stealth FXE has the same geometry, brakes and mudguards. With the exception of the steep seat tube, it will be a fine bike.
