Distance not thought yet. Maybe 4-5 hours at a nice steady pace with cafe stop.

My lad is 7.

It is NOT going to be a race

What sort of distance / terrain ?
My lads are 5 & 7. Thinking of the youngest really, he's probably still going to be on a Cnoc14.
Soon to have his brothers Beinn20 but older brother not quite ready for his 12" Hotrock26.

Hey, I could use my Kona Ute. It could be the team bus in case any of them bail. ๐Ÿ™‚

Mileage and route no idea yet.

If we get enough interest there could be a long and a short option.

Hi, yes, 2007 my lad would have been about the age of yours now.

Hope you're keeping well.

might be up for this, depending on route/terrain. my girls are 10 and 9, and can manage 7 miles on smooth-ish paths.
Isn't it richpips' lad that's done C2c and would put most adults to shame? (or is that someone else's lad)

that may have upped the average speed and ride time a tad

You can do the elite one then and we are riding with Dawson ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mine will do 10 miles ish but very slowly. Load of moaning going uphill from the youngest as well

Hi richpips - your lad was brilliant - did the chocolate cake get him up the old road & home?

Choice of the trails - Monsal, High Peak, Woodhead, Tissington or something a bit bumpier?

Hi, Glenn here - think we met a few times on Monday Delamere Night Rides.
Lad of 12 and the good lady too probably OK for that, date is good just depends on route as he's never done more than a 2 or 3 hours, so keep me posted if you would. Ages since we've been out as a family so need the excuse.

Need to swap an on-call week at work but that's not normally hard. We should make it. Little one (7) probably won't make huge distance but will give it a good go. 11 year old capable of more but that includes more moaning.

I'll look at the map tomorrow, but given the min ages so far one of the trails as Rogerthecat suggested with an optional bit of the PBW maybe.

The Tissington is particularly child friendly, my lad rode there when he was 5. Cafes and very slight gradients.

Hi Glenn ๐Ÿ™‚

Sounds good. If we're free my 8 & 11 year olds would be up for it I'm sure.

Much more likely to do the tissington than the broken road and i doubt the youngest would even try tbh.

Date looks good for us. Tissington sounds good. Done it few times. Could set off from Tissington & head up to the cafe where the High Peak joins, at least its all downhill coming back. I probably would take the Ute, so my youngest could climb on the back if he got too tired.

Ok folks, I have a plan of sorts and the ride will be based on the Tissington trail.

For those who don't know it, it's an old railway which is slightly downhill as you head south. No technical skills needed.

Most kids should be happy riding the uphill bits, and I know that the surface is suitable for towing a trailer.

Park up at Parsley Hey (Snack Bar).

Various options from there stamina dependant.

Out and back to Tissington snack bar for little ones(least steep section of the trail 1:263 iirc) 20 miles.

S on High Peak trail past Minniglow then towards Biggin, left to Tissington then back up Tissington Trail. ~26 miles

Have a scan of the map and let me know what you think.

You could fit a tow rope to your bikes to assist the wee ones if they get tired.
Length of plastic conduit fixed to bike top tube, length of rope up the inside with a bungy cord to attach to kids bike. Works a treat ๐Ÿ˜†

Sounds good Richpips.
We once did a big loop leaving the Tissington Trail at Tissington, & heading on lanes to Brassington to pick up the High Peak Trail. There were some steep road climbs, especially the one out of Brassington. My lads would probably prefer the Tissington option.

......There were some steep road climbs......

I'm hoping whatever we decide, it will be traffic free. Though if we use the High Peak Trail south there is a main road crossing.
