[#3210101]

I wanted to fabricate a simple mount for a helmet light - a curved section to alter the shape of one of my helmet vents to allow direct fitting of a Magicshine type light with rubber o-rings without the need for a bulky plastic helmet mount.

Then I remembered seeing Sugru in the Fresh Goods a few months back so decided to give that a try.

It's cracking stuff - within 20 minutes I'd moulded a mount that seemed to be just what I was wanting. I can now mount my Smudge XML directly on to my helmet and nearer to the front than before which keeps the light low and out of the way.

(I used soapy water when making the mount so that it didn't stick to the helmet so the finished article is removable and I just put it between the helmet and light whenever required.)

I bought a pack of Sugru and can see myself playing with it to make a few other new bits now.

Lets see the results! I like the product, it's one of the best to come out the RCA in years. I just don't like the lo-tech appearance the end result gives.

Have used it to fix a few bits, but most fun was making a few 'sugru beans' and adding them to the office sweetie bowl ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Love the Sugru beans idea. I'm going to have to pinch that one to try myself.

i used it to fix a hole in my shoe where i wore through stopping a bike without a brake.. but not really anything particularly useful.

have found "polymorph" to be more useful really, it cures to a solid plastic rather than rubbery stuff and does it quickly, though it's a little harder to cut and manage etc, have to plan how to shape it beforehand for the best results.

(it's plastic with a low melting point, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds, mould it, solid at room temp and you can re-use it)

How far does a pack go? I was thinking of using this stuff to make a better version of the MuckyNutz fender - the MN is too stiff and bends out of shape. Otherwise I thought a silicone pastry rolling sheet would work

To me it's very expensive but I bought some and so far have replaced a broken bike computer mount with it.

Carl - link?

I've used it successfully for a few things - but watch out - although it sticks to most surfaces initially, it tends to let go after it hardens off completely. It's easy to glue back on because it has an exact match to the contours of whatever you're gluing it to - but don't use it to stick something precious to your bike assuming it will never fall off.

I've got some of that stuff. Good but expensive. Polymorphic plastic is good too, and cheap (available on ebay).
