I know I get one bag included, which can be the bike. I don't know what the maximum weight for a bike is though - it doesn't say on the website - though a normal bag is 23kg.
I figure I'll get away with just the bike bag and a carry-on bag for a week in the States.
Anyone with any recent experience of flying with BA care to share any gems of insight?
hi
flew with them last year, we used the 23kg as a bike bag and paid to take an extra bag, split the bag space and cost between two people
They were strict on the weight so make sure it's spot on or lift the end up when they weighting it
I flew BA to Geneva with bike last month from Heathrow T5. I also paid for extra bag - took bike in box and checked in bag. It was totally easy, but they were carefully checking weights of all mine (and other people in queue's) bags. If over weight they were making people repack or pay.
The problem is the fella I'm flying out with is coming back at a different time. Carry-on allowance is 23kg too, but I'll need a bag of the correct size.
I paid for an extra bag for the bike. The extra bag charge covers bags up to 23kg. If it's more than that then you also need to pay a heavy bagage fee (about 40 quid - though free if flying business class.) 32kg is supposedly the absolute limit, any more and they won't allow it on the plane.
