Nice frame, ultegra group. I don't think I need the SL or Di2. I really can't think of any reason not to, so I may have to do it very soon. Anyone have / had one and can think of a reason not to?

Other than it doesn't have discs, it's ace. ( I run a '09 Advanced)

Reggiegasket, the discs thing is the only thing that puts a slight niggle of doubt in my mind. Still reckon they are a year or two off though and it's not like I regularly tackle Alpine descents!

A friend of mine has one with Di2 ad loves it. And he's a super fast and picky guy.

The Ultegra Di2? It is tempting but it's a lot of extra cash.

My old carbon tcr (from right at the beginning of carbon tcrs) was a touch flexible - the chain touching the front mech twice a pedal revolution used to annoy me when climbing out of the saddle or sprinting. I'm sure they are better now.

Canyon CF SLX?

I'm very tempted by the 7.0 Di2 one at 2.7K

Got an older TCR. Excellent bikes, reviews of the time were very good.
Over ten years old and still my principle road bike. Love riding it.

Have you got a linky to the particular model you're considering ?.

Got a 2010 model, nice bike. Very stiff and quick. The only reason not to buy one would possibly be the sizing. I rather fustratingly fit between M and ML sizing, took me loads of fettling and a stem change to get the right fit. So would recommend getting a bike fit done if possible. Most LBS's do this

Yeah, if the link is for the particular model being considered, thats a sweet little number. Ultegra kit too. Nice, you should have loads of great miles on one of those.

sounds ideal then 😆 I have the Defy Composite 1, so same components and the cheaper carbon, with a slightly comfier fit - brilliant bikes

I've just bought a Defy Advanced 0 - so with Di2 and better wheels. I'd have gone for a TCR but thought the Defy better for the riding I like to do. Still making changes but here it is:

Sort out those hoods, sweep up the leaves and cut down that fork steerer tube.

Good, can't have the honour of STW being brought into question by folk paying RRP.

You missed the wheel sprocket protector thingy but yes still sorting out.... I do like the hoods rotated forward a bit though as feels more comfortable with my small hands - I think maybe they look worse in the photo than reality though.

Maybe not as much as in the pic - this was my last bike - leaves were even worse in those days

I got a 2010 Advanced1.
Superb. Very sprinty & climbs so easy ... only my lungs & legs slow it down.

Bought a used TCR 0 Alloy with full Ultegra. Changed the wheels to Ksyirium Elite and have gone racing 😆 . It's a sub 8 kilo rocket ship that is the best £650 I've spent. Problem is, when the insurance arrives for my previous bling machine, will an Advanced SL with Di2 really be that much better? And would I be too nervous to go out on it.

TCR's are fantastic bikes. Great choice.

TiRed, I remember reading your first road race thread, I am quite tempted if I can get some fitness back for the summer. Have had pretty much a year off with injury and the arrival of blobby jr so have quite a bit of work to do!

I'm not really sure about the saddle on the Giant, possibly too soft. I haven't ridden it properly yet - the saddle angle is as it arrived. I'll probably put on a Bontrager saddle like on the Trek as I get on with those. The photo of the Trek was also before I'd ridden it and I do remember moving the saddle nose down a bit. I'll have to learn to not take photos of my bikes before they're ready!

Anyway enough of this accidental thread hijack...I reckon the Defy will be good for climbing, hopefully I won't regret not getting a TCR - or even an Advanced SL 1 - had to draw the line somewhere!

Looking forward to seeing mrblobby's bike - Giant's are the best!

The SL is veeeery nice....especially in ISP flavour
[img] [/img]

But I can't dedicate the time to training to justify racing 2nd cat next year so I'm selling mine (f&f and wheels).
Will get something more appropriate to my skill level 😐

mr_mills - what size frame? I reckon the geometry on yours can't be much different to my Defy as you have spacers under the stem and I don't.

Rorschach - is it a problem selling a frame with an ISP? Or is there some adjustment?

Saddle looks low - how tall are you?

Being very lanky I've only taken 15mm off the isp.You get a 2nd longer seat clamp so if needs be the seat will go 40mm higher but you'd have to have a 36' inseam.
It'd be an issue if you bought one and were short of leg though 😕

I'm 5'10". That was taken before I'd ridden it and I think it's a tiny bit higher now but not much. I'm longer up top with shorter legs. It fits nicely. M/L is the right size according to Giant's sizing thingy though.

Mr Mills, it is indeed a lovely bike.

Rorschach, that is also lovely. I did think about the SL but I seriously doubt a man of my modest abilities would notice the difference and would get much benefit so couldn't really justify the price hike.

Edit: I'm a six footer and went with the ML. Tried the L but it just didn't feel right. The ML felt absolutely spot on.

Fair enough - just looks a bit different without so much seat post showing, I notice yours is the older frame so maybe their frames are more compact now.
