Any places with bargain wheels?

[#12474963]

I'm looking for set of nice 27.5" non-boost wheels. It's supposed to be a bit of a budget build and nothing popping up on the 2nd hand market so might have to go new.

Anyone know of anywhere clearing out cheap wheels?

The current CRC and wiggle sale has quite a few wheels. It's a mix of sizes so you have to hunt around.

50WHEELSET Should give 50% off any wheels on Superstar components.

Depends how cheap cheap is I guess? As mentioned, CRC have/had some Hope based wheels for just over £200. Plenet X also had some insanely cheap wheels but think they were 29ers.

That'll do. Thank you.

I’ve had several decent sets of Superstar wheels in the past and would happily buy them again.

OTOH I've had issues with 2 different Superstar rear hubs. Both axles bent and on one the free hub disintegrated.

The wheels were well built though, and the front hubs were fine (though there's not much to **** up with a front hub design!)

The Hope wheels from CRC for £225 are an amazing deal - literally cheaper than the hubs on their own.
40mm rims though, so depends what size tyres you want to run. They'll do 2.6+

Agree on superstars. Rear hub explosion x3 for me.

To be fair they were replaced under warranty (while in warranty), but it was still a right faff and eventually I had to buy new rear hubs. And yes they were well built tension wise.

Depends if you are bothered about that. So long as you can swallow the risk it might still be worth doing if you can stomach having to shellmoit for a new hub at some point

No idea what they're like but they're certainly cheap.

To the people who had issues with Superstar, were these the latest made in house hubs or the older bought in ones?

Can't remember model names, but the first one was a rebranded French make (discovered this while trying to source a replacement axle), and the second was the 1st gen of their own hubs.

Not impressed by either tbh.

I went to BPW every week for months on a set of superstar wheels. They were fine although one wheel mysteriously had all the spokes come loose. Not doing massive air but they took my 95kg going over rock gardens with low levels of skill.
