[#6618132]

I have an achilles problem, instigated (I think) by wearing some shoes that press in on it.

Since then running has been out, making it really sore and tender to the touch. Ice/rest didn't sort it. I then went on hol and lots of walking/steps didn't help, but weren't as bad for it, now back to (standing/walking around) work and it seems to have calmed down, but not gone entirely.

What's wrong and how do I sort it?

Al, my wife had the mother of all achiles problems after a bit of very high cadence riding on the tandem (ahem). Classic crackly crisp packet sound/feel. Her fix was 6 weeks off, RICE and Brufen. It hasn't recurred.

It took 4 years for mine to resolve completely...

This is useful:

Sounds more like tenosynovitis which is a bit different.

EDIT: though Al might have either ๐Ÿ™‚

My first suggestion would be to see a physio in person so that they can do a proper assessment. Without being able to see, palpate or consult the medical history etc any diagnosis is suspect..

I'm surprised she still has toenails given the centrifugal forces generated at your cadence.

http://www.running-physio.com/insertional-achilles-tendinopathy/ Filly your boots Al. It's either that or something like retrocalcaneal bursitis:

Or some other random shit.

While our resident physio is here, what could cause ones knee to hurt, mostly round the back, after overloading it due to squatting, not the weightlifting exercise, for a long duration? No swelling, and no impact/trauma. Hurts when squatting below parallel etc.

Just a strain/sprain?

Probably nothing to worry about. If it doesn't clear up in a few days fire me an email.

It probably is just a minor sprain/strain/painful thing. You'll have been stretching ligaments, squashing meniscus, or stressing muscles too much. Just dont wind it up any more than you have to.

Well it's still not good and while not painful to walk on is swollen and a little tender.

Think I'll hit FASIC

Get it looked at by a decent physio (I recommend osteopath) for dysfunction in the ankle/foot joints

Very common is for the two bones in lower leg to 'slip' forward over the joint, preventing full upward flexion. Can lead to shin splints too, but essentially every step you take creates a tugging on the Achilles

Predisposed by sitting a lot

No amount of stretching of calf muscles will help if this si the case
