It's awesome! Plus there's stuff for all abilities.

However, and this is a big however, you will need guiding to get the most out of it. Trail Addiction are highly recommended!

Was there at the beginning of August. The riding is sublime. The decents are long and as mentioned there's riding for everyone. Definitely get a guide to ride the decent more natural trails and to get the most out of your time there. Also if you fancy a peddle free holiday go during the 6 week period when the lifts are open. Mountain bike chalet also recommended

Only been on skis.

If you're after a picturesque village, you'll be sorely disappointed! Lovely mountains, though!

if you're happy to pedal a wee bit, and therefore access trails other companies wouldn't touch, then pop to bikevillage.

food is rather good too, though i say so myself ๐Ÿ˜‰

Another vote for trail addiction, be running there for years and trail knowledge is second to none. The accommodation and food is great too.

There's a huge amount of riding to be done, mostly singletracks rather than man made trails and all lots of fun.

As per all the other posts, lots for different abilities. Purpose built down hill courses and marked trails, unmarked natural trails, some fire roads.

Definitely, a good place to go for a first time trip abroad!

So far as guided holidays in the area, we went with TrailAddiction and couldn't recommend highly enough!

It's ok and you do probably need to go with a guide to find the best stuff as the waymarked trails are mostly fireroad. A better option might be Deux alpes with loads of good trails and some really fun easy ones.

If you do go to les arcs don't miss out on tignes up the road. Excellent place, top trails and free lifts.

Les Arcs is fantastic (trailaddiction here too)

I think you'd be lucky to have half as good a time self-guided, so go with a guide. (It'd be great on your own but you'd miss all the best stuff)

All standards can find good stuff there. I'm shit and they even found things for me to ride on ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Great thanks for the info and pics!! Can't wait. I'll give trail addiction a shout but have somewhere to stay already so hoping they may do some guided days as an option.

Definitely get a guide. As good as the black 8 and red 10 are, the best stuff's not on the map.

We've been twice and use Rob @ Coolbus.

Black 8 is ace, especially if you make the "challenge"

White 8 is nice too but, as above, don't go there unless you only want to ride for 2 days or you'll get bored.

stuff into Arc 2000 is nice also.

Make sure you go with guides or you'll just hammer the same stuff every day

Amazing amount of riding but there is loads more outside of the Les Arcs area resorts. Did 10 days with the White Room and only did 3 of them in Les Arcs the rest were in all of the surrounding mountains (max 30mins away)

Check them out too (Chef in the Chalet was top too!)

I've been twice with trailAddiction, highly recommended.

Three of my friends stayed with the White Room last month, (drove down from Lancashire) & they gave them a glowing report.

i don't get this obsession with black 8 - from what i've ridden its a wide, over-used, rutted path, full of mincers on overly-big bikes.

this is the 8th year in a row i've ridden in the valley, and fortunately i've avoided having to ride the whole thing - there is so so much better, less used, more techy, or more flowy stuff around than black 8.

hmm, having said that, if it keeps people off the nice stuff...

GO RIDE BLACK 8 ALL DAY!!! WOOOOOO

lol @ hungry monkey saw what you mean! saw a group of about 20 heading down it as we kept cutting in and out on better trails

Top tips for lift only riding
Sante Foy Long long long runs
La Thuile (Italian resort over Pt Col de St Bernard)
Tinges (Free)

Failing that some van/guide assisted is awesome!

I've been there twice, both times with bikevillage and I would recommend them totally. I'm planning on going back next year Very friendly, excellent accommodation and superb food. While they are happy enough to use lifts that are available they know the area very well and use trails that take a bit of accessing and make it so much better than just mindlessly riding down waymarked trails that seems to be the case in most other resorts.

One stand out ride was from the top of the Cormet de Roseland to Albertville. Without a guide you would never find the trails we used.

I'm sitting in the White Room chalet right now so i'm going to recommend them for area as a whole. This is our third summer stay here and we love it! Trail addiction are very popular too.

Spent today riding Tignes lifts (for free!) as it's their last day of the season although the weather is awful right now.

Les Arc is amazing but the valley as a whole offers so much more riding. Vehicle uplift and guide is needed to the most out of the place though. The riding here really has every thing from stupidly flowy to technical and everything inbetween.

@hungry_monkey: I must admit to seasoning black 8 two years ago (on the wednesday when there we no tA guides). this year I only rode it once as i found it so cut up. There are many more interesting trails out there, esp over on the La Plangne side: Premier League, Hot Lovin, etc. Also really enjoyed The Lakes and Double Header this year.

Just got back from an amazing week with the whiteroom. The trails in les arcs were ace but there was so much more in the valley.

Double header and Secret Garden were two of the best I've ridden anywhere.

i was on the same trip as burchy1 and can vouch for everything he says.

personally prefered the stuff around the corner at sainte foy and the big day out epics in the region like mont jovet and the col de petit st bernard.

upshot is that there is a really varied selection of trails within a relatively small chunk of the alps and it's really worth exploring more than those that you'll find around the lifts in les arcs.

whiteroom have les arcs and so much more.
