they may offer, but do they deliver?

Not managed to find any winter boots that prevent my feet from freezing for anything longer than a 60 min ride.

These any good?

No experience of them, just noticed them whilst browsing their sale. (I've ordered from them before so can vouch for their legitness).

Nik I think socks are a key thing here, a pair of modern synthetic hiking socks make a huge difference. I can't advise on the boots sorry and am on the lookout for a reasonable pair that don't cost as much as a bike myself!

I've the 'artic' versions which have a fluffy lining, I've never had cold feet wearing them, unless it's significantly sub zero then I just wear normal socks in them.

Biggest difference was propper roubaix longs though, no point having insulated feet if the blood supply is cold!

cheers Dan,

yep, tried a lot of different combinations in an attempt to have warm feet. I normally size up on boots, the SIDI's are a 48 and have done OK. I have had shimano boots before, but got a good deal on the Sidi's a number of years ago and sold them on...

I've tried waterproof sock, liner socks, hiking socks, thick socks, thin socks, overshoes (worked best TBH) and still cold feet.

been advised to try endura's thermolite socks, so will give them a go, although I may need something a bit longer in the ankle.

there was a thread on here a while ago about some new super uber winter boots with vibram soles, neoprene and all other sorts of special stuff - bit pricey mind but look the shizzle..

Personally, I'd be wary of buying boots without trying them on beforehand.

I bought some Northwaves last year from Rutland Cycles (instore and they were on offer - 90-something down from £130ish), at the same time I also tried on the Shimano, Specialised and Mavic boots and none of them were particularly comfortable for me, whereas, the Northwaves fit like the proverbial glove.

AW in Reading had some old stock of Sidi and NW winter boots at 50% off in very big and very small. Don't know what they have left. Might be worth a phone call.

I'm a long time sufferer with cold feet pretty badly, even sat at my desk
Anyway, I went 2 sizes too big in the Shimano Goretex MW??, normal Winter socks + neoprene socks, this left plenty of room for toe wiggle, worked very well last Winter

Also worth making sure boots, socks and feet are very warm before kitting up

I'm considering going to flat pedals this winter and using hiking boots. Shouldn't be a problem seeing as I don't need to maximise my speed on rides.

Sorry to resurrect this, but just wondering about using somethig like a XC50N shoe and warm socks? Never been too convinced of the insulation of the toe box of some shoes and Ive never had a positive experience of neoprene ankle cuffs.
More thinking that warm socks will cover the warmth and I'm pretty sure I could wap a gaiter over the shoe to prevent water getting in at the ankle?

might feel slightly less bulky too.

yes/no?
