I haven't got a dropper post yet. Only realised on Saturday that my seat post won't go all the way down. I presume the post is too long. Can you just cut the post down to size to allow your seat to go all the way down?

Yes, but your cut-down seatpost needs to definitely go past the minimum insertion for your frame when it is at its highest position - check with the manufacturer if it's not marked.

I thought that would be the case. I will have a look on the Calibre/Go Outdoors websites. Has anyone fitted a dropper to their Medium Bossnut on here?

Go outdoors have responded to my email saying "On the seat post itself will be a min insertion  mark this is around 100mm"

@frozenwhite - the person at go outdoors may not be giving the best advice here.

There are two minimum insertions you need to know about on any bike seatpost.

The first is the one the go outdoors person has told you about. That stops the *seatpost* from snapping.  It’s a biggie, but not the most important.

The second is the *frame* minimum insertion. This stops the frame itself from snapping.  It’s usually around 100mm/4” below the top tube - and given how much seat tube is above top tube these days that could be pretty significant. With older designs where there wasn’t much seat tube above the top tube you were probably close enough just going by the post itself.  Now you’re definitely taking a chance doing that.  Be careful...

Mine doesn't go fully down. Sticks out by 80mm. Minimum on the post says 100mm. I have enough on it to take the 80mm off and still have 100mm in the frame with my seat in riding position. I wonder if they have given me the wrong post? Worried about cutting it now right enough

Out of interest, how much range of movement are you looking for ? In your riding position, what does the 80mm become ?

I've responded to the email asking the frame min insertion and why the post doesn't go fully down

^^^ so when it’s up in climbing position it’s 130mm, and when it’s dropped as far into frame as it will go it’s 80mm ? That doesn’t sound great and appears that either the frame is too big for you, or you have a post that is too long. A 130mm stickup isn’t much and you’d struggle to get many droppers in there once you factor collar and seal stack, even for a 100mm drop.

I picked up a large initially after being convinced by the guy in the shop that I needed a Large and not a medium like I'd asked for. I was between M & L on the size chart. ended up taking it back and swapping it for a medium. Size feels perfect now
