In particular any 29er steel deluxe or ti deluxe frame owners? Would like to se some pics been looking at them and the idea of a custom made frame appeals i also really like the styling. Would have to sell a heap load of shit to afford one though including my cotic, so would it be worth it?

Get Dave Yates to build you a frame just as good as IF .Even better ,go on one of his courses anbd build it yourself.

If you can get past the bullshit attitude of Mr Yates and his charming wife, that is! We're 'doing you a huge favour' by building you a frame etc.

If you like the look of IF then go for it. Probably best dealing direct 'though.

Otherwise, there are other good UK frame builders out there and they'd be a lot easier to deal with if you need to iron out issues/sort problems when you can easily speak on the 'phone or if necessary pay a visit.

A couple of mates did Daves self build course and found him really interesting and informative
Apparently he reckons Dekerf are crap amongst other gems

even the fakes ride really nice.

Ringo on a more serious note , i have 4 IF's and another arriving tomorrow(yipee) and i must say they are fantastic frames , the guys and girls at IF are very friendly and helpful when you speak/email them with endless questions about stuff. they have a real passion for what they do and want to give you exactly what you want when you order a frame from them.
they are expensive compared to some other custom frame builders but ferrari's cost more than audi's

A pal of mine has got a custom built Ti 29er IF and it certainly is a good looking bike and he loves it. I think it is his 2nd or 3rd one as well. I think his username is hamc on here but I don't think he is on here much.

One of mine is a 29.4 and the other a 27.2mm, it depends on what you ask for!

Do you fly to the states to get fitted ? If you don't I would have thought it a waste of money compared with getting fitted on a jig at a bulider like Argos

if you have very deep pockets you could, or you could go to mosquito bikes or sideways to get yourself measured up.

Ideally id like a ti 29r ss with the option to run it geared I mainly ride rigid but might want some bounce at one point geo not too dissimilar to my cotic soul

That's how i started geometry discussions with IF last year. I wanted a long travel version of my old Merlin XLM but with some of the ride characteristics of my (then recently deceased) Soda. I'm really happy with the end result, it rides exactly how i wanted/expected.

I'm wary of those geometry measurement systems. I got measured up once at Omega. The result they came back with looked like an overgrown farm gate. My Merlin fits me perfectly, so that was a good point to start discussions.

Slightly OT, i went down the decidedly un-niche geared 26" route.

Have a look at De Salvo for the custom option. I'm swithering between Mike and the guys at Enigma for a custom Ti crosser. Both make some terrific frames. I have an old Fat Chance. A really nice bike made in the days before Fat Chance employees formed IF. I like it a lot but I'm not convinced the premium you pay is necessarily worth it. Having said that, if you can afford it, why not eh?

Myheadsashed has a custom DeSalvo and it is indeed a thing of beauty. Current delivery time is about 5 months.

Cheers

Sanny
