anyone know of the best races to enter into as a first time racer on a novice. Really want to do the set 2 rise with charge but realise 12 hours and no training other than 2-4 hours on a bike a week wont get me round.

Any suggestions?? PS live in Hertfordshire and ride a charge duster hardtail with XT kit..
I am dying to race!!

Gorrick Enduro www.gorrick.com - an hour from Herts, great riding area, and being a lap event you can go for a longer distance and not end up miles away from anywhere if you find you've bitten off more than you can chew. Or the army 'Are you tough enough' later on in the summer in the same broad area.

Or the Thetford events this summer - options for 2, 4 or 6 hour enduros so you know exactly what you're in for.

Thetford Summer series.....see the link above, or:

www.thetfordmtbracing.com

First races I did were there. I am an unfit git, so just go round at my own pace and have a bit of fun. Slowly getting better results though, which is nice.
Generally friendly atmosphere and nothing too technical to scare you under race conditions, just nice and flowing singletrack (so long as it doesn't rain!).

I had a reasonable bash at a 24 hr - 46 yrs old at the time - smoker, ride 50 ish miles a week. Just pace yourself and you would be fine soloing a 12 hr. Go at Sunday afternoon pootle pace minus a bit and aim to ride for 8 or 9 of the 12 hrs.

I know the scottish ten under series are novice friendly - you get 12 yr old kids in amongst the entrants to race against 🙂
