My stepdad is after a decent bike, mainly for urban use, and I'm trying to convince him to buy a good frame and build it up either with cheap, new parts or from a donor bike.

Anyone seen any any decent frame deals out there? I did try to point him at very cheap Genesis High Latitude, but it was lurid green...

Why? It won't be cheaper.

It might well be as cheap as some of the second-hand options he's coming up with...

I have A Charge Cooker XL, Orange CLockwork XL (not registered for warranty yet) and a Pinnacle Arkose frame all going. If of any interest. Email in profile.

I have an XL On One Lurcher carbon hardtail with headset and bb I need to sell.

If it is for urban use I would perhaps suggest something rubbish and undesirable to thieves though!

Not wanting to hijack thread and if OP is interested they obviously get first refusal but I'd be interested in some more details on the lurcher?

They are nicely made. I've got 2, one for general xc duties and the other built up as a rigid commuter

re the Lurcher - basically I've just swapped to a Parkwood frame, I loved the Lurcher for more xc type rides but I tend to ride relatively steep stuff at Innerleithen for example and Lurcher was a bit of a handful with its steep head angle and high top tube. I've only ridden the Parkwood once and I did like it a lot but I might just have one more spin on it before selling the Lurcher. It's in good condition as it hasn't been used a great amount and has a Gusset tapered headset and Token BB fitted, the BB spins but I think it is crunchy - definitely not the best sealed BB ever.

I'll get round to taking some photos and thinking of a price soon.

What's the catch? Other than the straight headtube, why's it so cheap?

The straight headtube is a problem and 2.1kg for a 19" frame? If that is super light, what do their enduro bikes weigh?

I have an XL lurcher frame for sale in the classifieds too. Have a set of pimpy wheels for it too, but that may be overkill..

That's actually the link I've sent to him with a breakdown of what it would cost to kit out with deore or alivio etc. Straight headtube isn't a problem because it would probably get a rigid fork.
