done the peaks and Sheffield to death now, but never really explored my home town.....
There are plenty of bridleways but you have to do quite a bit of road riding to link up the bridleways (a cx bike would be ideal). Have you tried warncliffe woods?
Where's Warncliffe Woods in Rotherham?
If you head out Dinno way there are loads of bridleways in the Firbeck/Gildingwells/Laughton area. These are pretty rather than challenging but at this time of year they do tend to be a clag fest especially as they are heavily used by horses.
B.A.Nana - Wharncliffe woods are actually in Sheffield rather than Rotherham but still pretty close to Rotherham
There was a thread on here a good while back by somebody from rotherham JeJames trying to work out how viable a shop ride would be
I think the result was that (legally) it wouldn't be ..
There is a number of rides worth of (mostly cheeky) riding in the firbeck/laughton area, north of there across from conisborough to bawtry areas, also west of laughton down toward ulley.
I've not explored much further than that though
IME tends to stay drier for longer than say the peak , being more low lying and more easterly
re: Rotherham, the maps make canklow woods (opposite halfords on the dual cariagway) and herringthorpe/listerdale woods worth a try?
Living not to far a away (clowne) I've found loads of routes round here, as said nothing challenging but scenic, often ride 30+ miles with any more than few 100yrds on a road. Plenty out firbeck and out towards retford .
Warm up ride to Conisbrough, then hit Steetley Quarry and the woods. You can make a pretty good ride from this lot. A popular area, still attracting regulars, mostly from Donny.
