Need front and rear, preferably smallest spend possible (for something decent, like) and don't necessarily need rotors.

Best I've seen so far has been Hayes Strokers pair on Merlin for £100.

Hoping someone's done my legwork for me 😉 Ta!

I have ordered the Avid Juicy 3s on Merlin for £100. Have been impressed with Juicy 5's and apparently the 3's are little different.

Folks were raving about these offers a while ago.

Does anyone happen to know why the SLX M665 brakes are about twice the weight of the Deore M595 brakes (or so it appears from the Shimano site)?

I was considering using 180mm rotors on a set of the Deores on my Heckler but am wondering they would up to the job, and if not I was thinking I should perhaps get some SLXs instead.

There's no better offers out there than the Formula ones on their website tbh, the Oro's an old design and retired now but it's still ace, and costs less for a full set with rotors, hose kits and all, than it does for one end for anything better.
