Looking to swap my Yeti ASR for something with a bit more travel but want an all alloy frame. I need it to be light as I love the climbing and acceleration of my ASR. The threads all seem to point at Intense/Turner and Orange but is there something else which is a bit lighter?
s works enduro?
My alloy Rush with a 50mm stroke shock has 125mm of travel and is only 5.5 lbs (large).
Obvious choice - Yeti 575
Ellesworths are light too.
So what is the weight of an 2010 Orange Five frame? I got one (forgor the weight) and it climbs like a dream - Loose 1Kg in weight and then not an issue? Also the Fitter you are are the less you'll notice ๐
I am/have been a huge Yetifan for about 6-7 years but now that they are carbon rears (including mine) I'm a little nervous about the comments people make about them breaking. The 575 is perfect but feel a change is due. I used to own an Ellsworth Sub22 and that was an incredible HT, I dont seem to like the look of the rocker on the Suss's though. Looking for a frame only for most of my current bits.
ibis mojo is 5.5
18" Five is 6.8lbs...
Ventana El Ciclon.
so we are talking about 1 lb = 450g - blimey thats 1/7 of the contents of a camelback bladder - hmm ๐
Your camelback weight 3kg? Should be renamed and elephantback.
Even more obvious answer - Yeti ASR5 Alloy. 5.5 lbs claimed
Glenh - duh
1 lb = 450g - blimey thats 1/7 of the contents of a camelback bladder
I said Camelback Bladder - when full thats and extra 3Kg's! Just thought I would get things into perspective ๐
Sorry, not sure what you point is?
That sounds like far to much to be lugging around to me.
Maverick Durance - I have an ML7/5 and they genuinely climb like nothing on earth!!
My point is Glen ๐
why not just loose 1 lb/1/2 lb off somewhere (of ones middle) rather than worrying about frame weight is my point - i.e. narrowing your choice of some very good frames just for a bit of weight! I was using the carrying weight around as a comparison of how much fluids, pumps, tools, and changes in bodyweight can weigh quite a lot!
Unless your racing and then most Pro's use HT's then why worry? Get it? Don't think I would notice an extra 400g going up a very technical climb?
Ok, I understand now. I do agree with you to some extent, but there isn't 1.5 lbs to loose off my middle, and I don't carry that much water ๐
Ellsworth Epiphany 5.2" travel and a 5.7lb fame
Banshee/Mythic Spitfire (5")? I've got an 07 Pyre (5.5") which is very similar and only weighs about 5lbs.

Chumba claim the VF2 is 5.3Lb without shock for a medium frame.
I will weigh a frame with shock and let you know the real weight ๐
Don't know what you are used to but I'd say (from experience, and I am pretty jey) don't sacrifice stiffness on a 5" bike.
My Mojo SL weighed 5 lbs on the dot frame, shock and headset plus seatpost collar. Now weighs roughly 27lbs with all the parts off my Heckler :o). Huge amounts of fun and tons of smile/per mile
Maverick, they are great bikes.
If you do swap the ASR I might be interested in purchasing it (if it were a carbon rear ended small even better???). I currently have an 06 HL 5-spot, and it's a bit bigger than my balls, so am after something lighter, less travel and more akin to my xc riding style. Absolutely love it though, none the less, just wish I'd bought a flux.
My Titus motolite is about 6lbs or just under I think. Medium. 5 (or 4) inches of travel and nice and stiff.
Just weighed a VF2 with an RP23 shock and seat post clamp and it was 6.3LB
I will probably get flamed for talking about the VF2 again, but they are laterally very stiff, compared to my old 07 575 there is no comparisson, the VF2 tracks so much better!
Nicolai Helius CC is 5.9lbs, with 130mm of travel.
I am loving the Nicolai/Banshee/Ventana, just what this forum is all about - I would have never found those. All the suggestions have helped immensly. Andyfb78 my ASR is a large I'm afraid but would have been a fair swap. Keep em coming if there are any other recommendations! Cheers.
I have an S-Works Enduro (6" travel), which according to someone on MTBR weighs 5.5lb in Large - but then you'd hope so with it being carbon.
I have a Scott Genius 20, doesn't weigh much at all.
I completely stripped my (medium) Prophet for powder coating last night, pleased to announce that it weighed a mere 2400g (5.29lb). Totally stripped though, no bearings, no pivot bolt, but I reckon these would add less than 150g. So with a Fox RP23 shock (<250g) it would be just under the 6lb mark.
Titus FTM Exogrid 5.3lb for extra small size.
