Planning a day trip up to Llandegla in March (only one of four done it before so somewhere new), then thought about the DH run at Antur Stiniog and combining the 2 for a weekend away. Anyone done this combo in a weekend?
Whenever we've headed that way it always tends to involve Betws y Coed/Coed y Brenin...so keen on NOT doing these this time.
Anyone got any pearls of wisdom re: Antur? Costs/uplifts (if any). Assume fullface/pads advisable for it.
Digs recommendations welcome too 🙂
Cheers
AS is well worth a visit. I wore a ff lid and knee pads. Just wear what you're comfortable with.
Antur is £25 for days uplift, that's only way you can't ride up
Will get upto around 20 runs in
The blue and red are no worse than anything at Llandegla maybe just faster, and a bit rockier in places I wore full face but it's not compulsory unless you go down the black runs, helped my confidence though I would probably recommend it of you have or can borrow one knee pads I would definately recommend, elbow and shin if you feel they are required (it's easy to pad up as your not ever doing any climbing)
I did llandegla Friday Antur Saturday on 1st December weekend they compliment each other quite well
Can't advise on digs as my parents live on Wirral so stayed there and drove to Antur, was only an hour half max
Iain - recognise you off the Commie forum.
Did you do AS on your Meta 55 - cope ok? That's what I'm on 🙂
No, I was on the new Meta AM which lapped it up (and no Chainguide only a clutch rear mech)
But SteveP from forum was on his Meta 5 and it was fine
It's great fun think few of us going back 1st March
There was people on hardtails, which would be ok but hard going on the arm pump after a few runs I imagine
Click on my name, it's my Vimeo link, there is some videos of the day on there or same user name on YouTube
Last time I went I still had my 120mm Trek Fuel EX. It was fine on the red trails although the very bottom section was verrrry bumpy and I was struggling to hang on! Great fun though.
We did Antur on a Friday (superb), CYB Sat ( very superb)and on the Sun we were doing penmachno but it was utterly wetting it down so we went to LLandeglla on the way back, it was pretty dull, all the jump sections were straight lines, no interesting corners just an uphill into berm at end of each straight, one bit had a nice flow but that was all. The climbing was tedious and had zero technical merit. Wont be going again in a hurry.
We've done that combo as a weekend. Uplift Saturday, stayed in Llangollen overnight and the did 'degla Sunday.
Stiniog is one of the best uplifts I've done in the UK. Up there with Pearce Cycles for efficiency and getting lots of runs in. Degla is a nice lap with all the black bits. Plenty of climbing to counter balance the uplift at Antur Stiniog!
I took two bikes (cuz I've got them!) but others did it all on a trail bike.
Full face is compulsory for the black runs in "the rules" you sign at Antur Stiniog. I'd wear one anyway.... and as one of our guys put it "dress for sliding down a massive cheese grater"
