Whilst doign some work the other day it occoured to me that I always put some kind of anti-siezing liquid/grease/mixture on any bike part I'm working on.

Why?

Whenever I've bought any new bike the threads have always been dry with a smear of blue threadlock.

Is this an american thing as they don't get rain/mud like we do so they specify things to stick in the frame, where we spec them to come out again when they inevitably need a service much quicker than expected?

From your time working on cars?

IMO no need - grease for all threads, loctite occasionally where needed (pretty rare), no need for coppaslip either (cars of course see more salt and less dissembly.)
