I've been offered a completly standard 09 Anthem X1 for a decent price and it's in good condition. Read the rave reviews (whatmtb bike of the year in 2009). How does it compare to the newer anthems? Any real world difference?
Not to keen on the orange, but could live with it.
How is the wheelset that comes with it? Seems to be dt swiss hubs & mavic 717's....

I was about to buy one and then the 2010 came out with a preferable spec. However the 09 was and is an awesome bike. The 2011 flavour adds PM disc tabs, press-fit BB and tapered headtube. But then you pays bucks more. If the 09 is the right price I'd not hesitate. And I like the orange.
I've just got back from a ride on my bright orange x1, stunning, stunning bike. XT groupset is going to work fine, wheels are ok and the forks are good. I'd be tempted to swap them for some 90-120 u turn types though.
Embrace the orange, you won't regret it!
Orange is a great colour for bikes and Anthem Xs are great bikes. What's not to like? 🙂

Can 2009 sid teams be up'd to 120mm like rebas?
I have an 09 Anthem x1 - excellent bike and brilliant frame. I have upgraded/changed most of the components over the period but would happily ride a stock X1.
I havent ridden the newer ones so cant comment on difference.
If Anthems were made in clekhudersfax everyone would be raving about em. As it is there just great bikes but it.

Orange is not a valid colour for an Anthem. Everyone knows that.
SID teams - no, 80 or 100mm unless they are 2011 or newer, and came as 120mm to begin with.
2011 vs 2009, not that much in it frame wise. Better cable routing, i.e. bottom of the seatstay, not the top - so shifting it improved, as the bend in the outer is less severe.
There is more hydroforming, and a tapered headtube - so *should* be stiffer, whether you'll notice or not is up for debate.
Pushfit BB.... do you really care? Post mount tabs... again.... are you the sort to care about 50g?
