Lots of options and obviously the new Addix. I'm looking for best option for muddy trails for the front of the bike - which Magic Mary would suit? I might get a Fat Albert for the rear - my Nobby Nic PaceStar is tragic! Any ideas on a decent rear tyre for mud/maybe a little more all-round??

I've just got a MM in soft snakeskin to try. Can't yet say what it's like. My rear tyre of choice for winter is DHR2.

I just got a new Addix mary in 27.5 flavour. Not.sure what one but it has an orange stripe around it! Soft I think. It's grippy as a grippy thing!

Magic Mary quite versatile imo. Has a slight edge over a DHF in blown-out conditions. My favourite is the supergravityvertstar but they don't last very long.

Works well with a HRII on the back or an Advantage or even a Spesh Captain Control

For primarily muddy trails the Maxxis Shorty is probably better than the Mary, it works great in loam as well.

For the rear look at the WTB Vigilante tough/fast - assuming you want a sturdy carcass.

Tried one after this thread, very impressed so far...

Magic, thanks for that guys. I'll stick with Magic Mary for the front I think - Addix Soft for the next one- but will use a Vigilante on the rear.

I did try a bike today with Rekon+ on the back and Minion 2.8 on the front and loved the tyres. Admittedly they weren't on full on mud but overall I came away really impressed.

I took off the racing ralphs midweek and went out on the MM and Hans D combo and really struggled to keep up with my mates up hills, but felt so secure on the downhills....it was worth it.

Does no-one use a Mary on the rear ? Just ordered a pair for general winter XC duties in 29er flavour. Want something that can handle the winter slop but also grippy on foresty-type trails, roots etc.
Should I be looking at a Hans Dampf for the rear then ?
Bloke on the Schwalbe stand at the Cycle Show suggested the Mary for the rear.

Which MM were you using ? The SnakeSkin or the SuperGravity ?
Ditto the HD, the Snakeskin Soft or Speedgrip (orange or blue stripe) or the SuperGravity ?

God, this is confusing .......

No-one using a Mary on the rear ?

I've seen people use MM on the rear but they don't make for an efficient set of rollers.
I wouldn't consider it unless I was doing uplift assisted runs on soft - boggy tracks.

Thanks for that Kamakazie, I've ordered a Hans Dampf for the rear in Speedgrip. Actually my recollection was wrong, the bloke at the Cycle Show was actually talking about a Nobby Nic for the rear but that's what I have on at the moment and I want something a bit beefier that that, so the HD sounds ideal. Not convinced about the Speedgrip but they seem to be well spoken of so we'll try that to start with. Cheers !
