Roadie colleague has just forwarded this to me.
BIKERADAR.COM So, so sad. My friend is currently doing pre-season coaching for the Wallis team so propbably knew him. My roadie colleague lives in the area and trains on the same roads. He says that the attitude of drivers there is very hostile towards cyclists. I live on the other side of town and get very aggressive drivers giving me grief all the time as well.
Please stay safe out there. It makes my heart sink to read such tragic stories.

Last sentence paragraph shows how avoidable it was too. The last sentence in particular speaks volumes:
Ironically, there's been an accident today (19 January) in the exact same location in which a vehicle crashed into a police car that was parked whilst continuing to investigate the accident."
