[#2792086]

Seems to be a flood of STWers doing the end-to-End this year...

I'll be setting off from Lands End on June 17th, heading for John o' Groats on June 26th. 1,573km (or just under 1,000 miles in old money) in 10 days.

Those who know me, or even know of me, may be aware that I lost both my parents within the last 18 months. Both went to cancer and both were taken care of, at the end, by the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh.
There is no doubt that I have found it hard to cope, but I know that the care and compassion they both received was without equal anywhere.

Doing this challenge for Marie Curie will be a chance for me to give something back and will also, hopefully, be a time for reflection for me.

I've had a look at the route and it takes a fairly meandering course using lots of smaller lanes and by-roads. Weird for me to do it like this as I'd normally plan a route myself and for sure some of my choices would be a lot different (e.g. I'd not be featuring a ride past Grangemouth Oil Refinery). On the up-side, I'll see lot of bits of the UK I didn't know existed.

I'm not necessarily pleading for sponsorship, but I've started off by pledging the whole of the minimum sponsorship myself. This means that anything you do give goes straight to Marie Curie and isn't paying for me to [s]have fun[/s]/sleep in a dorm full of sweaty, snoring cyclists.

I'll be adding more stuff here as I get nearer the ride and will hopefully add a few photos and tales as we go.

Right then - off to get the trains organised!

I'm doing JOGLE in August for CLIC Sargent with a target of 7 days, they helped us out massively (and continue to do so) when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years back, feels good to be giving something back finally. Let us know how you get on and the best of luck raising money for a very worthy cause.

Apparently, that's to make taking sunnies off for the TV interviews / podium shots quicker & snappier. Unlikely to be a problem for me ๐Ÿ™‚
